Dec 6, 2025 #technews #pcbuilding #hardware The tech world is heading into a strange crisis…
RAM might become harder to buy in the future, and most people don’t even know why. In this video, we break down what’s really happening behind the scenes from rising production costs, changing industry standards....
,and the move toward integrated memory all the way to how these changes could affect your next PC or gaming upgrade.

“My first computer didn’t have RAM. It had mag tapes and disk platters...”
It has RAM.
I seem to remember it cost me about $400 for 1mb around 1990. It was either for that or my huge 30mb Seagate RLL drive.
“So, in a few years we’re going to have the equivalent of dumb terminals connected to a mainframe some where else?”
Nope. Your ‘terminals’ will be very smart AI driven systems.
“64k ought to be enough for anyone.” - - Bill Gates”
AI Overview
That quote, “640K ought to be enough for anybody,” is a famous, often-cited misattribution to Bill Gates from the early IBM PC days, highlighting how technology vastly outgrew early limits; while he never definitively said it, it reflects the common sentiment of the era about the 640KB memory barrier, often tied to early PC limitations

Knotted cords?
Actually, it did have RAM, just not the PC computer type.
Sooo.... all the RAM I’ve been accumulating over the last 20+ years is worth a small fortune now?

EBAY New and sealed will sell for sure. The worse this RAM situation gets, used will sell too. Used 2x 16gb kit (32gb total) of ddr4 ddr5 are probably easy sell on eBay today. Laptop RAM sales are higher than desktop RAM sales.
While I'm intrigued by AI, and make good use of it, it is a bubble, and those who go "all in" on this technology are going to have a bad day ahead, IMHO.
I remember a time when 64K of RAM would cost $2,000.
When I bought my Commodore 64, I thought “No one needs this much memory!” LOL!
cripes...I was cleaning out one of my file cabinet drawers and I have RAM from all over the place wondering what to do with them.
I was gunna throw ‘em out.
I don’t have much of a social media presence anymore and I only buy(not sell) off of ebay occasionally.
I suppose a computer shop might take ‘em for a not much price or i could just give ‘em away.
or maybe get a few\many like minded FRiends and open a used RAM business.
Because “they” want to control you.
Been seeing this story the past few days. I wonder how much it’s pushed up the price of RAM?

I’m looking at getting a eBay refurb higher end laptop to make my Linux daily driver.
The windows boxes have a few things that I need from time to time and emergency spares in case the spouse’s unit fails.
I’ve been sending 4 and 8 gb sticks to electronic scrap at the office.

Dell 11th gen Intel laptops are Mint Linux compatible. I have installed it few times on Latitudes 5520. This is 15.6” business class laptop. Most that you will see on eBay were leased by corporations, hospitals, governments, and now being replaced with new Latitudes
After Christmas all these prices will go down 10-20%. People are tapped out. If the one you like does not come with A/C power adapter aka power brick..one will cost you about 12 dollars.
**** Look for 16GB RAM

Latitudes 5520 come with a backlit keyboard 99% of time. So be sure the one you buy is backlit. This is high quality back lighting. No fooling around
