My wife went in to AFIB Tuesday morning for the first time. She went to the ER and was later moved to Intensive Care.
To make a long story short she has been put on a Butt Ton of drugs, one of which is Eliquis.
This drug should have been on the Generic Market years ago but for some reason is not.
The lowest price near us that I can find is about $550 for a 30 day supply.
This is forcing me to consider getting it from Canada by mail.
Looking briefly I see some pharmacies in Canada offering it for $60 for a 180 day supply.
I am seeking guidance from anyone with personal experience buying drugs from Canada and a suggested reliable pharmacy.
Look at Pradaxa as an alternative.
Northwestpharmacy.com
I’ve used them for years. They are entirely reputable. They were recommended by my doctor in the first place.
low dose aspirin!!
My dad did for years. I assume you had no problems. Before you do that you might check online to see if they have any coupons or deals and ask your local pharmacist if they are aware of any special coupons or deals. Off in the higher price drugs have some sort of help.
Thanks I will look them up.
Best coupon I could find was only $100 which still leaves on the hook for $450
My wife can’t do aspirin due to stomach issues.
Talk to your cardiologist about a Watchman ablation. It shuts off the chamber from possible issues. Your Doctor can advise. My wife and I both had the procedure because we were spending $1000 per month on Eliquis (outrageous, isn’t it?)
My father in law had the same experience, he has been able over persistence to get it lowered to about $100 a month. He ended searching prescription plans that covers it at a lower price.
We use the PHARM store. A huge cost reduction.
I also am an Eliquis user — I’ve been told “lifetime”.
Still WAITING for PDJT & RFK to bring this drug’s prices down. Totally PISSES me off.
It was supposed to have gone generic in January 2023, then at the last minute, Pfizer and Bristol-Myers-Squibb did some abracadabra and rescinded that. The kick-in date was SO set that my insurance provider already had switched me over to that. Then, just a couple days before that date, I was informed it was to the old price.
Now I think the new date is 2028. Absolutely disgusting! As if the pharma companies hadn’t made ENOUGH money during Covid ...
As far as the best price, I have no idea. We, too, have shopped around, but the bottom line always is, “You’re screwed.”
I even contacted my Rep., Tim Burchett, about the pull-back of the generic, and was told that they don’t get involved in private enterprise. (They do when/if the want to.)
If all else fails, she might try a buffered aspirin. Coated aspirin break down in the intestines, not in the stomach causing the usual problems.
When Trumprx.gov comes online check it.
Contact Eliquis directly.
Our bill (same exact situation you’re in) went from $300 to $30.
Call 1-855-ELIQUIS (354-7847)
If this doesn’t help, let me know.
go natural and get her on magnesium glycinate.
Better price but still $360.
Can’t help with Canada but you can get it direct for $349 if you don’t have insurance.
I second the ablation. My wife was in permanent afib for years and her new cardiac doc had her do it three times before it finally knocked her out of afib.
One of my wife’s medicines (I forget which medicine) is very expensive. However, we went through her doctor with a Patient Assistance program, which I think runs through the drug company. If you are below a certain income, you can qualify for free or reduced prices on certain medicines. The income cutoff isn’t too onerous, so I suspect that perhaps half of the retired community would qualify. You might ask your doctor about it. Best wishes.
One of my family members buys Eliquis from Canada - no problems and ¼ the cost. You have to send them the scrip directly and pay by check. There’s some law preventing credit card use for drugs purchased in Canada. Don’t know the pharmacy name, but there are many options.
