F1 keeps getting better and NASCAR is another story of failure due to greed.

This should be a good one with the drivers championship still undecided. Pulling for Norris but it’s hard not to root for Max with his great comeback this year.

F1 is better over the last few seasons, and as you say, TRASHCAR is circling the bowl.

Ol’ Tony would sure liven things up in F1. I think Cadillac might do some of that next season, too.

I’m hoping Max can pull it out, but both McLarens will have to have problems and not score many points.

“I’m hoping Max can pull it out, but both McLarens will have to have problems and not score many points.”

Not true. If Max wins and Lando is fourth or worse, Max wins it. The point difference is 12 points at 396 to 408. So if Max is third, ahead of Oscar, and Lando is worse than 7th Max still wins it.

Of course, if Lando is third or better. he wins.

Unless something strange happens, Lando will do better than fourth so he should be the champ.

I’m also rooting for Max and a good race.

Formula One's championship permutations

NORRIS (408 points) is champion if he finishes:

- On the podium.

- Fourth or fifth and Verstappen does not win

- Sixth or seventh and neither Verstappen nor Piastri wins

- Eighth and Verstappen is not in the top two and Piastri does not win

- Ninth and Verstappen is not on the podium and Piastri does not win

- 10th or lower and Verstappen is not on the podium and Piastri no higher than third.

VERSTAPPEN (396) is champion if:

- He wins and Norris is not on the podium

- He finishes second and Norris is no higher than eighth and Piastri does not win.

- He finishes third and Norris is ninth or lower and Piastri does not win

PIASTRI (392) is champion if:

- He wins and Norris is not in the top five

- He finishes second and Norris is 10th or lower and Verstappen not on the podium

In the unlikely event that Norris and Verstappen end up tied on points, the number of wins will decide the title on an initial countback.

Since they are level on seven wins, and a tie would only be possible if neither of them win, the countback would go down to second places over the 24-race season. In that scenario Norris would win.

Verstappen and Piastri cannot end up as the top two tied on points, given Norris's advantage.

I came across an interesting — and not altogether unlikely — scenario in one of the blogs. What happens if they’re three laps from the end of the race and they’re running Verstappen, Sainz, Piastri and Norris?

Will Piastri let Norris through, giving him the WDC?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Ecclestone thinks Max will pull it off because:
A. Verstappen is living rent-free in the minds of both Norris and Piastri, and ...
B. At the moment, McLaren would be hard-pressed to find its own buttocks in the dark with both hands

OBTW, in 1956 it was the driver who qualified, not the car, so the driver technically could change cars during the race.

Juan Manuel Fangio led the WDC going into Monza, the final race of the season. When his steering arm broke, Ferrari teammate Peter Collins agreed to switch cars with him.

Fangio came second to Sterling Moss on the day and the points he shared with Collins were enough to give Fangio the WDC.

If Collins had stayed in his own car and come second, he also would have been WDC, not Fangio.
