Yep, same here. Buy better, but buy less.
One problem is that many heritage brands are no longer high quality, so you can no longer trust then on label alone.
Same with the “Homemade Vanilla” but without the pecans, & peanut oil, and with vanilla. No mention of “Frozen Dessert”, but does not say “Ice Cream” either.
“””””All the Great Value branded cartons are labeled “ice cream”.
One Gallon of Great Value vanilla ice cream is listed at $7.27.”””””
Yep, the Walmart brand all say “ice cream”.
I had the same experience. Nice to know I wasn’t the only one.

Did they really? I hadn’t noticed that. Shrinkflation, bastards.
And Unilever buys decent products and turns them into trash. I have been telling people on FR about this for at least 20 years now.
I even brought up the fact that it was now "Frozen Dairy Desert".
Heavy whipping cream, half and half. Big market for those things at fancy coffee shops.
Well, we get ice cream roughly once or twice a year. And it tastes good. So we’re golden.
Honestly, we usually make our own. But we kinda cheat. It’s electrically turned.
Heh. We just do Vanilla.
I have a tub of Blue Bell’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. I struggle not to eat the whole damn thing at once.
Kroger Private Selection is very good. I’ve been buying their “Double Vanilla”.
And still a half gallon, too.
My favorite.
As it should be. It’s actual food, albeit junk food.
Not whipped processed ice stuff like Breyers.
I note even the “lite” Blue Bell has enough milk solids to be ice cream.
“It’s electrically turned.”
When I was a kid, we didn’t have electric anything. Even the ice box was an ice box. And we had swamp coolers, and fires to bar-b-que with, not rotisserie so the meat was turned on a spit. I think it tasted better anyway if you had to salt the ice to churn the hand crank churns. Hot day, BBQ chicken with potato and macaroni salad, corn on the cob, and hot apple or berry cobbler on the side of that ice cream. Nap shortly after.

“We just do Vanilla.”
We did a lot of that but we lived on a ranch with a garden so we made all kinds of different things like strawberry, boysenberry, cranberry, cherry, plum and lemon often as they were abundant on the ranch. Great days.

OK, send me a time machine and a list of those stores, please? 😅
fyi You can make healthy, high protein “ice cream” with cottage cheese.

Reduced to 1.5 qt instead of 1/2 gallon(2qt).
