The MONTHLY Gardening Thread is a gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to/removed from our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a MONTH Ping List, but we DO post to the thread all throughout the month. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time.

Haagen dazs is the ONLY ice cream I will buy...when I want a treat (@ once a year) I want the real stuff!
Sorry you tube link did not go live but it works as copy and paste.

1-Ingredient Pineapple Sorbet.
Must be made with frozen pineapple from a can----will not work with fresh pineapple. Cut into small pieces; separate so they don't stick together when freezing. The pineapple is very hard and frozen, so a processor turns it into a soft -serve frozen treat. A blender will not work. Needs to be eaten immediately b/c it will start to melt; will not keep well in freezer.
Note: freezer your bowls prior to making this; sorbet stays nice and cold in the bowls.
Vary: Good with mango or other frozen fruits. Add 6-8 small mint leaves for Pineapple Mint sorbet.
No way B&J’s——radical liberals.
Agreed! Wish i5 wasnt quite so exp3nsive though. But probably a good thing it isnt lol
I ahve ice cream maybe 5-8 times a year or so. I sued to like the breyers, but no more... haggen daz onky from here on out unless i can find baskin robins
We had 80 degree days around Thanksgiving - with lots of cold rain before that. Plants don't know what to do.
Sometimes when this happens, we get a beautiful fall bloom of roses - mine are beautiful right now - just as I'm about to cut them back.
My best rose, Perfume Delight:
French Lace:
Scentimental:
And, my helpers (pup keeps the squirrels out of the bird feeders and kitty keeps the rat/mouse/gophers under control). I couldn't garden without them!
I LOVE iceberg lettuce and prefer it to all others - combined.
Family likes other types, including arugula, watercress, radicchio (NO).
Nothing better in a tossed salad, on tacos and tostadas. Nothing else substitutes for it.
My daughter has one of those fancy new machines that turns anything into an iced dessert (raspberries, blueberries, etc.) or can make ice cream as well.
She uses it to make whatever fruit is in season into a frozen fruit-only dessert, such as melon or strawberries. Really nice, and none of us need the extra sugar.
Iceberg .lettuce is the biggest food hoaxes ever foisted on the Public. #1 it is not grown on icebergs as the name suggests. #2 you would think that you would find it in the frozen aisle. None of these are true. By doing research some are actually grown in greenhouses which is as far from icebergs as you can get.
I love Romaine...found a way to keep it fresh for a couple weeks in a jar...I can eat it right out of fridge as a snack.
Hi, I thought about you over the weekend. Glad to hear from you and love the family picture. What a beautiful rose and a perfect shot. Greetings from the frozen tundra of west Michigan.
Keep it going for as long as you can!
I’m in Zone 5a (SW corner of Wisconsin) and in years with a thick layer of snow BEFORE freezing temps I’ve over-wintered Brussels Sprouts, Onions, Leeks, Kale and Spinach.
A good book on the subject is ‘Year Round Vegetable Gardening’ by Nikki Jabbour. She’s in Canada and gardens all year round under row covers and snow.
Also, anything by my HERO Eliot Coleman and his wife Barbara Damrosch. They garden in Maine:

Oooo! I’d eat that with a spoon, LOL!
I’m picking the last of the bell peppers and tomatoes today.
Well, I can’t disagree - mainly due to my love of Fish Tacos! Gotta have shredded iceberg on those, though sometimes I do shredded cabbage. ;)
Iceberg was ALL we had when I was a kid. I was in charge of the Side Salads with supper, so I did what I could to dress them up. I had a Betty Crocker Kid’s cookbook that had lots of great ideas in it.
I had my last Cherokee Purple a few weeks ago. It’s going to be a l-o-n-g Winter! :)
Wish deelish H/D wasnt quite so expensive ...............
You get what you pay for.
If anyone is interested in buying more seeds, here’s a website that has them on sale today only for only $ .99 each. I’m stocking up! The price adjusts to .99 in the cart.
