A former World Trade Center worker who also "narrowly escaped" the September 11 terror attacks in 2001 has been beaten to death in New York City by three teenagers. One of the teens was just 12 years old at the time of the beating.
Long Island native Roger Borkum, 64, was found after three teenagers were seen “kicking and stomping” on him, according to an arrest report in Florida. Borkum was found with blood around his head and a "blood trail extending down the sidewalk,” a police report said.
Justin Curry, 13, Marcavion Lacey, 19, and Robert Pope, 17, have all been arrested in connection to the brutal beating. All three of the teens have been charged with murder. Pope and Lacey were detained shortly after the attack on Borkum.
When police arrived on the scene, they "discovered Roger Borkum had been severely beaten. He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries four days later," a press release from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.
The report said that the three teens were going through the man's backpack, and then about 20 minutes later, returned and kicked him multiple times, per the New York Post.
One of the suspects said they attacked Borkum because the 64-year-old man had "dissed" their "dead homies," the report said. Borkum worked on the 77th floor of Tower 1 at the World Trade Center. He had been fired in July 2001, and "narrowly escaped" death and saw “his coworkers perish" in the terror attack.

OMG! How awful.
Confusing- this was first reported in Jacksonville, FL and the perps were arrested by the Jacksonville Police. The victim was from NYC and living on the streets in Jax, FL. The Post Millenial got it wrong obviously.
The Jax.com reporting showed all the perp “teens” as well as a shot of the neighborhood where this occurred off Logan Street.
Again, odd to screw up the details by other websites— laziness?

Ditto. Before we decided where to retire, we spent a lot of time on city-data.com. They have a great chart showing diversity in different areas of the country. At that time, in 2010, it was accurate. Nothing has changed here during that time.

I live in Saint Augustine. There are plenty of African-Americans living here. I have not heard of any crimes by any racial group. Jacksonville, 30 miles north, much bigger city, is quite another story. I think the big cities all over United states have a much bigger crime problem.

"In an arrest report obtained by First Coast News, the investigation revealed that the teenagers had battered Borkum three separate times between 9:44 p.m. and 10:48 p.m. on Oct. 19 on Hogan Street. The second beating occurred at 9:58 p.m. and shortly after, a witness found Borkum on the ground and called the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.JFRD responded and determined Borkum was not in need of medical treatment at that time and left the scene, the report says. The three suspects returned at 10:48 p.m., battered the victim again and proceeded to flee the area on foot.
After the suspects fled, a second witness found Borkum and called 911. JSO and JFRD responded to the scene.
He was transported to a local hospital and died from his injuries four days later."
