@RepThomasMassie
If the person isnโt guilty, this is theft.
@CBP
It's not a crime to carry over $10K, we just want to know about it. CBP officers in Texas seized over $70K of unreported U.S. currency. A driver was referred for secondary inspection, during which officers and a K9 unit found the money concealed in the vehicle.

You have three gold coins, worth 12000. How do you give them to your grandchildren? Declare them to TSA? Conceal them in your luggage (which will be x-rayed)?
Stop and question, perhaps, but confiscate pending legal proof? Un-unh.

Is Massie illiterate?
What I would do is just give them to the grand children.

Please! This is FR, where, like their (R)N(C) overlords, they only give lip-service to the Constitution, so that they may ‘conserve’ the status-quo and decry the vices they object...by using govt to criminalize.
You have to get to the grandchildren. My point is that the government’s nose is everywhere, 10K isn’t that much money, and this pre-emptive confiscation is unconstitutional.
Where is the actual story?
LOL!
Rand Paul, regardless of his education, is an absolute joke...and the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Yes, he’s low IQ based on his continued actions and non-sensical comments.
But that’s untrue I am no troll and have a long(ish) posting history
Totally different to the twitter trolls and also there’s no incentive for me. In fact, I chip in so it’s the reverse: All this costs ME ๐ to be abused by you and your occasional cohorts
Well I hope these two clowns are checking to see if “THIS IS ALL CONSTITUTIONAL”...after all what President Trump is trying to SAVE AMERICA...WTH ARE THESE TWO DICKHEADS TRYING TO DO???????
Slow news day...
Massie should have waited to speak out until he knew for sure rather than use the word “If”.
He just appears nit picky.
He runs because people are pretty nasty to him. I don’t agree with Massie or Rand on things lately, but this guy isn’t nasty to anyone. ๐ค
But where is the news, where is the actual story?
The reason it is there is to stop money laundering of drug trafficers.
Since laws like this are the result of legisslation that is passed by Congress, shouldn't Massie point the finger at himself & his fellow members of Congress?
Perhaps he can start a campaign in Congress to repeal forfeiture laws. Because they really are laws that reverse the innocent until proven guilty, into guilty until you prove your innocence, and they are prohinited from using that money seized to mount a defense.
But again, the border patrol are only following the laws Congress enacted
Furthermore, if they can prove that the money came from a legitimate source, they can recover it. But the thing to do is declare it by filing a Report of International Transportation of Currency or Monetary Instruments (FinCEN Form 105).
If unable to declare it legally on the forms, then your next best option becomes to declare it at the border when they ask you if you are bringing in more than 10K. There is a process for forfeiture, and if you are able to prove that this money was obtained legally, then the money will be returned to you.
What Happens if You Try to Take Too Much Cash Across the US Border?
I live off I-10 in Central Texas. There have been many cases of cars being stopped with cash and having it confiscated. Asians seem to be a target.
The thing is many of them have money pooled from family members, and don’t have receipts for every last dime. They may not be involved in criminal activity, but don’t trust government.
When I was in BiH during the war, my friend’s brother had almost $500,000 in his basement. He made a wise choice as the UN OSCE closed/confiscated the banks in that Canton for an “audit”. Predicted time of audit was 7 years. This was not just money from sketchy individuals. It was money for civil authorities. Policeman’s salaries, teacher’s salaries, pensions, hospitals, etc.
Yes, and execute all drug dealers, from street level to kingpin. Arrest, trial, conviction, appeal and sentence to be carried out within one year.
Fed Ex or UPS.
The same reason there are no bills larger than one hundred dollars in circulation.
Bullshit. Cash is legal tender. Citizens have every right to carry as much of it as they want. Civil forfeiture laws have been abused by LE for years.
