Campbell Soup Company is facing an employment discrimination and retaliation lawsuit in Wayne County Circuit Court after a former security analyst alleged he was fired for reporting inappropriate conduct by a senior executive.
The complaint, Garza v. Campbell Soup Company, case number 25-018465-CD, was filed on November 20, 2025, by the Runyan Law Group on behalf of plaintiff Robert Garza. The defendants are Campbell Soup Company and supervisor J.D. Aupperle.
The claims—centered on a secretly recorded tirade in which a senior vice president allegedly mocked the company’s products, its customers, and Indian employees—challenge the credibility of Campbell’s public values and highlight broader concerns about how corporations handle discrimination complaints.
Campbell Soup Company told Newsweek that—if the recording was legitimate—the comments were unacceptable and did not reflect its values, adding that the executive was on leave while an investigation was carried out.
Newsweek contacted attorneys for Garza for comment via email outside of normal office hours on Monday. Why It Matters
The lawsuit against Campbell Soup Company raises serious questions about executive accountability, workplace culture, and retaliation inside one of America’s most recognizable brands.
It could shape not only the company’s internal response but also wider conversations about employee protections, corporate transparency, and the consequences of leadership misconduct.

I wouldn’t want to work with an employee who secretly recorded conversations regardless of wether they were a subordinate or a superior.
so campbells soup is people.
I grew up on that Bean Soup. I probably wouldn’t eat it now, but it’s a fond memory.
Progresso’s Lentil Soup is pretty good. So is Goya’s Black bean Soup.
I tried to make my own from an internet recipe and didn’t even get close. I’m going to try again though. I had the idea I could do it better. I think I rushed things and made a few mistakes.
Campbells is OK as a quick light meal or as an ingredient in some recipes. Since everybody carries a camera / video recorder with them at all times these days, people ought to watch what they say - especially those with lots to lose from careless talk. It’s kind of like the old west - you stayed civil because everyone had a gun on their hip.
The Internet seems to take away everyone’s reserve. We live in a world where everybody thinks that they can say what they want, because it - and THEY- are ‘important’.
It’s worse than Andy Warhol ever envisioned.
Campbell’s employee said he was fired for reporting VP’s vulgar, ‘disgusting’ rant. Now he’s suing
So nice to stuff the freezer with homemade food that also has lotsa protein...which is what Campbells leaves out....aka...the chicken.
Have you tried the Senate Bean Soup recipe? You can probably swap out the ham for bacon...
(But my husband’s ham hock and bean soup is about the best I’ve had...)
I’ve been making a Tuscan Bean Soup. It’s awesome. I added bacon last batch. Freezes well.
Post it if you should have time. I’m a bean fan.
I've been making Tuscan Bean Soup...
Way too salty...I make all my own soups now.
Reading the article doesn’t persuade me of wrongdoing at Campbell’s except possibly the firing of this employee.
Apparently this VP is in IT and has nothing to do with anything he was talking about.
Except maybe about Indian IT employees and what was he really saying about them? Something about not thinking for themselves.
His spouting against Campbell products is ignorant and inappropriate, but not accurate and not unlawful.
So this IT VP dope said stupid stuff at dinner, got recorded, the employee complained and got fired.
It’s a set up, designed to embarrass the company and bring a lawsuit.
If he was so shocked by what the VP said, why was he already recording the VP, which is pretty creepy to begin with.
I use chicken stock...whole bag of FRESH spinach.
I bought saltines...without the salt...so much better in soup.
