We are adrift in a sea of confusion and rancor caused by mistrust and ignorance.

Well, OK, we misuse people through language. And this thread happens to be specifically about the misuse of language.
Complex is your thinking.
What is it that’s forced to become obsolete or obliterated? Are your referring to words or to people?
The thread is specifically about the cause of our being “adrift in a sea of confusion and rancor.”
My claim is that the rancor is the real problem, and that it has been planned and orchestrated by specific people in power. And that they misuse language as a primary tool.
It's as if words are evidence. And as in court, people hide the evidence if it helps. But if the evidence is there, it can't be scrubbed away like with a cloth or something. All those word that you can't excise must be twisted instead.
So people try to make words go away because and sometimes even shut people up with a bullet. So words or people can be the target of obliteration.
I must add that the people causing the major problems in society—for example the assassination of U.S. Presidents, wars and other crimes against humanity—are ultimately both weak and stupid.
This is seen in the fact that they must always hide their actions and their identities.
I did ask if timaz could handle it or if he was up to fixing it. Timza is somewhat quiet.

Silence at times bespeaks surrender. So if not tamiz, then who?
In a thread about speaking language, we should never allow aphasia to prevail.
Exactly!

When I'm on the phone, and they can't answer my question, I assume they don't know.
Confusion is what creates chaos.
And then there’s distraction.
LOL!
It is political “Calvin Ball!”
As well as, deflection & gaslighting. 😁🤙
I faintly recall a philosopher, Berdayev I think, that thought we should use the same tactics not to lead people astray, but instead to common sense and truth. Not sure about that and neither was Corrie Ten Boom, but I could see that in pedagogy, building the right fences does help.
I suppose the question now is “so what”. There are many twists and turns to this subject. Perhaps it boils done to morality. Then, is the intent benevolent or malevolent? If morality is the key then a universal benevolent moral code is required, which brings us back to the current point. May be impossible. In the meantime when engaged or facing a communication dilemma we should insist and provide clarity it the definition of the elements of the topic. Destroy democracy is meaningless unless all parties understand the context of democracy in the instant of the discussion. Challenge undefined statements.
An undefined problem cannot be solved.

I'm all for it, but--for better or for worse--the fun and poetry get squashed in the quibbles, especially with dogmatists.
Why did you use that title, "Where have all the flowers gone?"
