Comedian Jay Leno is taking his wedding vows seriously.
Leno candidly opened up about honoring the promises he made more than 40 years ago as his wife, Mavis, battles advanced dementia.
"The idea that you get married and take these vows — nobody ever thinks they’ll be called on to act on them, you know?" Leno said on the "Today" show.

I remember when Jeremy Clarkson had Leno on Top Gear for an interview about Leno’s car collection. Clarkson, a professional automobile enthusiast, gently teased Leno about his 200+ car collection. Leno quickly retorted to the thrice married Clarkson, “ . . . but only one wife.” Clarkson, who is a quick wit himself, had to admit that Jay had the better of him.
That’s great! I don’t know how many times I have heard that song and not really listened to it. Thinking of it in terms of the Lenos makes it very meaningful!
I googled the song and see it was the title song for “Mannequin”, which I never saw. I was trying to figure out who the young man in the movie clips was, couldn’t remember. Andrew McCarthy! I saw some other 80s flicks with him.
Prayers up for the Lenos. My grandmother had dementia. It was absolute hell on earth seeing what she went through, and it wore myself and my mother down as we were primarily the caregivers (my dad helped at times but he was working then).
It’s an awful, terrible disease. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
And if this world runs out of lovers
We’ll still have each other
Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick are
just awesome performing this song

I was out a few days ago and “Jane” came on
STILL sounds as great as the first time I ever heard it
I have a sister and brother who bore that burden for the rest of us. The debt I and my children owe them is huge.
Ask Conan O’Brien if he’s a good man. His opinion might be different than yours.

oh my - you have really been through it. i admire you for standing by her despite how hard it is. you are a fine human being. i hope you can find joy in other parts of your life...wishing you better days.
So sorry for your loss. May God bless you as you mourn.
So sorry you and your wife are on this journey. It’s a terrible disease.
A good man, indeed.
Another one is Johnny Rotten, of all people, his wife had dementia for the last five years of her life and Johnny took care of her. They were married for 44 years.
Check out a song on YouTube by Gene Watson entitled “If She Only Knew”.
I can relate, because I’m in the same boat as Jay.
My wife of 52 years is in long term care for dementia due to a COVID vaccine reaction. We had the better, now we’ve got the worse.
My mother in law too. It is just horrific. The time comes when a nursing is what must happen. At that point her best days were her worst days because on those days she realized where she was and what had happened to her.
Was it demntia or Alzheimer's? An autopsy is the only way to be 100% certain it was Alzheimer's. It's guesswork otherwise.
Nancy Reagan was an angel for the President in his last years.
Mavis never has been right in the head.
But good for Jay, anyhow. Honorable.
I send my sincere condolences, Lurker. I will keep your family in my prayers.
Also sending up prayers for the Lenos, Blue Lancer, JimRed and your wives.
My dear dad had dementia the last three years of his life. It’s really awful.
What a pathetic commentary on our times that this is making headlines instead of being the natural, expected course of action for a married couple.
