Target sinks to new low as customers flee in droves - forcing bosses into drastic move
Inflation-weary shoppers are steering clear of Target's messy, understaffed stores.
On Wednesday morning, the Minneapolis chain with 1,980 stores said third-quarter profit took yet another hit, deepening a slide that has now stretched across three straight years.
Target's slump comes from a four-headed monster: shabby stores, sinking staff morale, jittery investors, and a leadership shake-up waiting in the wings.
And the pain isn't ending anytime soon. Executives warned the sales slump will drag straight through the critical holiday shopping season.
To stop the bleeding, Target is throwing another $1billion at store remodels and new locations next year, bringing its multi-year store facelift tab to roughly $5billion.
Bosses hope the massive investment will finally jolt the chain out of its prolonged funk. Independent analysts say the overhaul is not only welcome — it's years late.
'Stores are not optimized for the consumer,' Neil Saunders, a retail expert for GlobalData, said.
'There are too many out of stocks, too much mess, not enough assistance at registers, so forth.'

All we have left is Walmart, Sam’s, Ross, TJ Maxx and Kohl’s.....................
Gee, around here I only get that at Dollar General.
CC
I dont shop at Tar-Gay cant the deviants they cater to make up the differences ?
There is a KOHL’S within spitting distance as well. I haven’t been there in years. I order my sneakers and blue jeans online...
I hate Walmart. And I have absolutely no motivation to go there because there’s a Meijer right next door.
CC
I went there yesterday.
They are the local return place for Amazon purchases!..........
Apparently, my town didn’t get the memo, because the local Target is always overwhelmingly busy.
I’ve been boycotting Target ever since they eliminated fresh popcorn.
I had that experience not too long ago at Michaels. He helped me match up the thread on a shirt so I could repair a loose button. Good customer service.
The middle class shopper is broke due to Bidenomics. Shopping at Target is a luxury we can no longer afford.
Our Dollar General employees look more like they’re on work release. Though the manager looks to be in the witness protection program. New York Italian working far off the beaten path. Funny listening to a Bronx boy talking with a Hoi Toider...
I haven't been to a Target store in years. The description sounds like the demise of Sears and Kmart. I have no reason to visit a Target store to find out if my assumptions are accurate.
Working in retail is hell. Just ship everything, it’s already there to do it.
IF IT WAS NEXT DOOR TO DOLLAR GENERAL-—WHERE I GO REGULARLY—_STILL WOULD NOT GO TO TARGET
A lot of shoplifting at our Target store.
Target chose the DEI customer. Walmart chose the normal customer. Then Target ticked off the DEI customer but that did not bring in any more normal customers.
When you’re skidding out of control, take your foot off the gas and get back to basics. Cut the tranny, woke crap. Try flying the American Flag on top of the building and hiring attractive, clean cut staff.
They got woke! Now look...
You got to go there. It is like a free circus sideshow. You got the bearded lady, the fat guy on a little scooter, tattooed lady, etc. It is a good time.
Spot on!
