Fly-tippers bury field in 'shocking' mountain of waste (Illegal Dumping)
BBC ^ | 11 14 2025 | Marcus White and Jamie Morris

Posted on 11/18/2025 5:25:16 AM PST by yesthatjallen

Fly-tippers have dumped a "grotesque" mountain of waste in a field in Oxfordshire.

The "environmental catastrophe unfolding in plain sight" is up to 150m (490ft) long and 6m (20ft) high and has appeared on a site between the River Cherwell and the A34 near Kidlington.

Calum Miller, Liberal Democrat MP for Bicester and Woodstock, has raised the issue in Parliament, saying it was "threatening an environmental disaster".

He also said Cherwell District Council had estimated the cost of removing the waste would be greater than its entire annual budget.

"This is not a licensed waste site and we can just see the quantity of waste that has been dumped here, that's illegal, so it's criminal," Mr Miller said, calling it "pollution on a grotesque scale".

"That's not something that local residents and taxpayers can afford."

He says "criminal gangs are dumping waste on this scale" across the country and it will take government intervention before pollutants "leech out" into local rivers.

The Environment Agency said it would try to "ensure those responsible" for the waste cleared it up.

“This is not a licensed waste site”

Just issue a license! Sheesh. Problem Solved.

:: How do you determine who did it? How do you determine who did it? ::

You might want to listen to Arlo Guthrie’s “Alice’s Restaurant” for those answers.

Hey, somehow that guy’s garbage made it to the garbage heap. He’s either guilty, or can provide info on how his garbage turned up there.

“When the Iron Curtain came down, the environmental disaster was clearly visible to the West.”

Quite true. However, Eastern Europe largely missed out on the Third World invasion that is destroying Western Europe.

"What is a fly tipper"

Tipping refers to tossing out garbage. Fly is "on the fly".

I also had to Google Fly Tippers. when I started to visit sites like Daily Mail. At first, I thought it was something to do with Fly Fishing or maybe a Fly as with Baseball, but I was pretty sure the English don’t play Baseball in any big manner. There’s the Fly of a zipper and the Fly that buzzes around smelly waste. Those were ruled out too. Then I threw in the proverbial towel and put it in Search. Lo and behold!

It can and does happen in the US. Some areas of the US it is easy to dispose of garbage with trash cans easy to find in public spaces, parking lots, gas stations, and residential disposal rates low with very little restrictions. These areas are usually clean and debris free.

Then there are places like Queens, Philadelphia, Newark, LA where garbage disposal is brutally expensive and restrictive. Those places are as filthy as any third world shiite hell hole.

Turning garbage disposal into a political enterprise always lead to filthy debris cluttered places.

I remember quite a bit of it on dead end roads in south Florida. One time, we walked past a bunch of appliances to get to the water at the end of the road. When we walked back, some locals were setting up targets on some of the appliances, and carrying large-bore pistols. I guess the car parked there didn’t clue them in that we were downrange.

That is very true. I have great respect for countries like Hungary and Czechoslovakia (and Poland, too, I think) who have held the line for their own citizens on this type of thing

how remote is this area?

Not very. It's about 2 miles north of Oxford, and the A34 is a fairly major road. I'd call it suburban town, not rural village.

Had no idea what “fly-tipping” is until a Brit explained it thusly:

“Fly tipping is dumping your refuse in a public place.
It’s usually reserved for semi-organized dumping rather than stacking crap next to an overflowing bin.”

The UK is a police state - ignoring migrant crime up to and including murder and rapes while slamming the hammer down on the most banal of actions:

“A woman in West London, was initially fined £150 for pouring the remains of her coffee into a storm drain near Richmond station.

The fine was issued under Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, which prohibits disposing of waste in a way likely to pollute land or water.

The woman stated she believed she was acting responsibly to avoid spilling the coffee on a bus.”

Fine was later rescinded, lucky for her - I think only b/c of all the negative publicity.
