Harvard Researchers Say Strong Campaigns, Effective Anti-Trump Messaging Boosted Democrats in 2025 Elections

Political scientists at Harvard said Democratic victories in last week’s off-cycle elections were a sign of powerful backlash to Donald Trump’s presidency, but that Democrats could not afford to rest on their laurels ahead of the 2026 midterms.

Tuesday’s elections added new fuel to debates over whether Democrats could best strengthen their coalition by shifting to the center or embracing their party’s left wing.

Moderates Sherrill and Spanberger wielded their congressional experience and military and intelligence backgrounds to win governor’s seats. But Mamdani secured the New York City mayor’s office after running an unapologetically progressive campaign.

Some Harvard faculty said Sherrill, Spanberger, and Mamdani likely succeeded by running on platforms that emphasized voters’ day-to-day concerns and maintaining strong ground games.

Harvard Kennedy School professor Stephen Goldsmith, who previously served as deputy mayor of New York City and mayor of Indianapolis, said candidates’ focus on quality of life issues made “a really big difference.”

“People care about those issues,” Goldsmith said. “City and state residents expect from their governors and mayors pragmatic execution of the basic foundation of government. All three of these — Virginia, New Jersey and New York — were individuals who were committed to improving the quality of life.”

McKenna wrote that the Mamdani campaign was particularly effective at mobilizing membership-based groups to win back constituencies that had swung to the right in the 2024 elections.

She pointed to an exit poll by the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund and the Asian American Federation that suggested 20 percent of Mamdani’s voters had backed Trump in 2024.

Levitsky said last week’s elections were the strongest sign so far that Democrats were able to rebound from their across-the-board loss to Trump and his party in 2024.

Strong campaigns…in their deepest strongholds…the entire Democrat commentary around this for the couple of weeks is pure theater. The real story is the internal Marxist revolution within the Democrat party.

Extra days for the Communist RATS to “count da votes” didn’t hurt either.

Genius plan by the Dems to increase the cost of everything and then run on fixing the problems.

Trump found out the hard way that “bringing peace” to
Netanyahu’s bomb-happy Israel is NOT a winning election issue.....
as mealy-mouthed Democrats swept last week’s elections.

The lingering question remains.....”did Netanyahu have a “reason” to
keep Trump tied up in Israel while Democrats scored bigtime at home?

This just in:

Israel seeks 20-year US security deal of billions more in US tax dollars.
And get this——Israel has the audacity to say the “billions in US outlays will “benefit the US.”

“Me-First Israel” seeks an extended 20-year security agreement that doubles the current agreement and includes billions more US tax dollars to surfeit Israel’s already teeming coffers of US dollars.

Laugh break:
Israel says getting all this money will “align with Trump’s “America First” policy.

Key proposals include
<><>redirecting billions of military aid tax dollars to Israeli-centered research and development projects,
<><>US tax dollars to Israel’s thriving military business—its profitable global sales of missiles.
<><>Israel “says” the new agreement is aimed at providing long-term “strategic assurance” for Israel.
<><>the extended duration would prop up Israel’s centennial celebrations in 2048.
<><>and will shore up Netanyahu’s sagging political bona fides.

Shifts in US tax dollars focuses on Israel’s own R&D projects such as its thriving defense technology, artificial intelligence for more Israeli military applications, and specific projects like the ‘Golden Dome’ missile defense project.

Unspoken are Israel’s contingency plans to lobby Congressional dupes to change US law that remakes any monies Israel might owe transformed into “gifts.” This is an already established ploy-—after the fact-—making Americans believe Israel is only “borrowing” tax dollars

The “America First” angle sucks up to Trump and facetiously claims these are “direct benefits” for US industry and the US military.

Huh?

The purported Israel connection to the 2025 results is spurious at best, with not a scintilla of hard evidence, only biased, agenda-driven, wild speculation.

The Democrat results in 2025 were pure boredom: two dark blue states elected Democrats and a dark blue city elected a Communist. No surprise - just can’t get away from these hard facts.

No negative extrapolation with regard to President DJT can be made.

All they had to do is watch the Far-left riots by Muzzie Terrorists and illegal aliens taking over America on the Party of Death’s news media. It’s not rocket science. Wait until they watch Maddami’s moo moo wearing Socialists when their Five Fingered Hans Gruber teaches them that Socialism isn’t free. “You can vote your way into Socialism/Communism but you have to shoot your way out.” - Unknown.

I mean inflation is 3%.. Trump just relaxed some tariffs on food because “affordability” is the new catchphrase…..The fact is the GOP should have no issue countering anything the left says and publicizing their hypocrisy…. Their record of failure is spectacular.

They support criminals and illegal aliens…. They want more tax….. They want men in girls bathrooms….They love abortions.. They advocate protest violence and murder….they want more debt….

GOP loses its really just all on the GOP. The left has no message.

So, Democrats are not interested in solving problems the Trump administration is solving, or making life better for Americans in general. It appears that they are, #1, primarily interested in getting rid of Trump and his supporters, stopping the interdiction of drug boats and drug trade for which they must be getting part of their millions, providing extreme support for all kinds of perversion along with the drugs that facilitate committing such immorality without guilt, supporting people mutilating themselves to be what they are not gender-wise (and are mentally ill and THE group in society which kills whomever disagrees with them), getting abortions to remove consequences/responsibility for immorality, advocating for crime which enriches the mostly Democrat lawyers, and stealing the tax money of the hard-working Americans to provide SNAP benefits and health benefits for citizens and illegals who want to work less or not at all and vote Democrat to keep that going.

Best of all, the Democrat Party supports Palestinians, the most ruthless, hateful people of ALL history who NEVER give up on killing/hijacking planes, blowing up little kids to get what they want. Yeah, let's allow these kind of people to run the country and see how it turns out. Anything positive/constructive that Democrats support?

They raised wages on the low income end something like 25%. We are paying for that in higher prices.

Trump was not out there forcing the Democrats into defense mode on his many great issues — issues affecting voters’ pocketbooks and their children. The voters saw him as heavily engaged in foreign policy, tariffing American consumers, and pleasing his base with personal attacks.

A sizable number of Jews with Israeli ties and relatives voted for Democrats in NJ, VA, and yes…NYC. (And if not Mamdani, then Cuomo a Dem.) So simply boasting if Mid East talking points won’t work.

Liz, or whatever your real name is, I do not care about the Jews, literally. What I can not stand nor will I tolerate is CONSTANT hatred for someone unless they have harmed me (you) personally. And to keep doing it for over 2000 years? And kill innocent people over it for 2000 years???

Here, we move away from an awful neighbor or they move away from us and we go on with our lives. You folks live your lives giving Jews free space in your brain. STOP and realize what you are doing! Tell me great things that Palestinians have done for society besides perfecting beyond anyone's capability a fine-tuned hatred for Jews which involves strapping explosives on your worst kid and sending it to blow up Jews??? Israel may be corrupt to the core, butcI gave a life other than hating Democrats all of the time...some of the time...frequently...every now and then? Democrsts actually do things which harm my entire family and I am powerless to stop it.
