The founder of Virginia-based defense startup Govini was arrested on charges of attempting to solicit a pre-teen girl for sexual contact in Pennsylvania, authorities said Monday.

The founder, Eric Gillespie, 57, was charged with four felonies, including multiple counts of unlawful contact with a minor, according to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.

Gillespie, who lives in Pittsburgh, was denied bail by the judge, citing flight risk and concerns over public safety.

His company, which placed him on administrative leave on Monday, has a $900-million U.S. government contract, and multiple deals with the Defense Department.

Govini last month announced it had passed $100 million in annual recurring revenue. It is considered a prominent “unicorn” in the defense technology space, is a key partner in the U.S. Army’s Next Generation Command Control program.

Pentagon officials told CNBC they are looking into Gillespie’s arrest and possible security issues.

“While the Department cannot comment on individual security clearances in accordance with the Privacy Act, we take these allegations very seriously,” a senior War Department official said in a statement.

Gillespie lists himself as executive chairman of Govini on his LinkedIn page.

Gillespie was considered an expert in transparency in government and was appointed to the Freedom of Information Act Advisory Committee by the Obama Administration in 2014.

The White House referred all security clearance questions about him to the Pentagon.

Here's what Govini had to say about it on their website:
Govini issues the following statement regarding Eric Gillespie:

"On November 12, 2025, the Govini Board of Directors terminated Eric Gillespie from the organization, including as a member of the Board, effective immediately. Mr. Gillespie stepped down from the role of CEO almost a decade ago and had no access to classified information. Govini is an organization that has been built by over 250 people who share a profound commitment to America's national security, including veterans, reservists, and people who have dedicated their lives to causes greater than themselves. The actions of one depraved individual should not in any way diminish the hard work of the broader team and their commitment to the security of the United States of America." ‍

Understood that the initial contracts were awarded in the Obama admin - but the latest contract was awarded last month - the upside is that it was under the current Trump Admin that the guy was caught - I’m pleasantly surprised that the PA DA Office was the one that set up the sting - good on them...

Gillespie was considered an expert in transparency in government....

He was appointed by Obama as an FOIA adviser in 2014. I guess that means that he was considered an expert on how to close the curtains.
