I’m glad she’s not on skid row. Good for her.
Huh?? It's Elizabeth Berkley.
Gnarls Berkley’s sister, right?
Nearly killed her career?? What’s she done since?
I think she’s married to Ralph Lauren’s nephew. I doubt she goes hungry very often.
Married to nephew of Ralph Lauren. Presumably a billionaire’s nephew and family won’t go hungry, especially in Jewish families. Surprising to see a list of screen credits she has.
I actually liked the movie.
Berkeley’s acting was terrible, but the rest of the cast were professionals that did just fine.
Plot was fine. Scenes were fine. Lots of eye candy in a story where it wasn’t actually gratuitious, beyond the entire theme of the moving being gratuitous nudity stripping in Las Vegs.
Hollywood can’t make a good movie today. If Showgirls came out today, it would probably not be panned the way it was back when Hollywood was making better films overall.
I guess I am just dumb. I liked “Showgirls”. I like “Indian Jones Crystal Skull”. Whatever. I just like what I like.
“Showgirls” is like “Starship Troopers,” another Paul Verhoeven film: totally misunderstood. It was supposed to be an over-the-top brutal satire of Hollywood, as ST was supposed to be a satire critical of fascism. No one got it until decades later. He had the same situation with “Flesh and Blood,” which bombed horribly and now is seen as brilliant.
Why did she bear the brunt of it? it was a terrible movie so what.... lots of terrible movies get made. I seem to remember Kyle McClachlan and Gina Gershon being in it too.... didn’t kill their careers.
I remember when it came out, I did not think it was that bad. I liked Elizabeth Berkley and of course it had the amazing Gina Gershon.
The star of TV comedy Saved By the Bell was Mark Paul Gosseler. That show was the height of his celebrity.
He was not able to keep anything near that level of fame as he has aged. It happened to Beaver and Shirley Temple.
The Latino actor Mario has had the best luck, mostly as an MC or Host on several different shows.
I saw it once it hit the revival circuit. It wasn’t the worst movie I ever saw but it was no masterpiece either. Somewhat over the top camp is about right. It didn’t charm me enough to ever watch it again though.
