More old fart ruminations

Posted on 11/09/2025 4:59:58 AM PST by 2nd Amendment

Since everyone is narcissistic these days, I thought I'd post my 70 year old weird ideas. I don't use chatgpt-just an open Bible for my information I don't use any internet chat rooms (except this one!) I prefer talking over the fence to my neighbor I don't trust most politicians (especially those with slicked back hair! The only transpeople are know are in the trucking industry I think nose rings are to prevent rooting and tattoos are used for police identification For breakfast I like bacon and eggs not humus and tofu The only compensation a college athlete should get is tuition and 3 squares a day I don't like any automobile that you have to go to college to run I think welfare should consists of sacks of beans, flour, and corn. I think general Patton was a better general that general Milley I know I'm alone in this and I'm just ranting about a bygone era.

I live in a poor part of Appalachia and benefits are common here. Poverty is generational. There are lots of grandparents raising grandkids and getting SNAP/WIC. My wife works in a shop connected to SNAP/WIC, supplying donated clothes/diapers/formula to children. I know people in their 70’s raising kids. We have people in our family raising someone else’s children. The people next door lost the kids living with them (not their children) when the grandmother died. She was disabled by an IED in Iraq and the mother is in prison.

It’s not just an urban, black phenomenon. More than 3/4s of the children of welfare grow up as another generation on assistance. We’ve been paying just our least able to have children for generations now (while they pass on their cultural dysfunction as well), and our country now has an average 2-digit IQ.

It is Societal Expectations. Despite the poverty, everyone here is expected to be polite. You are expected to be cordial and friendly. If you sling a fit in the IGA, you will find out who is armed right quick like. And lots of people are going heeled.

I’m involved with a feeding program for the schools. The food is either donated or comes from grants. We aren’t there to ask why. We are just there to help. It’s the code of the hills.

Part of the problem is that poverty is also regional. The poor in Appalachia are like the poor in the Black Belt of Alabama: they’re the ones who refused to move to where jobs are. Initiative is not a government program or a college course.

The question rises....... are the poor today better off than previous generations that were also poor?

Then a corollary question...... what is there to allow creation of wealth? The answer is that the area was settled precisely because the land was undesirable and almost free. Settlement allowed freedom that came with poverty.

We have jobs. They just don’t want them. The Disability is rampant here. They do work. It’s cash-only jobs so it doesn’t affect their benefits. Some of them lack transportation. They have repossessions and evictions on their credit. It’s a spiral of bad decisions.

Your job/career is your source of wealth. Good decisions help. That house you saw in Blacksburg I got for $189k. It’s worth $515k now. I retired to Giles County with no mortgage and a state pension all because some college girl talked me into a COBOL class.

By their very nature, conservatives eschew change.

An automobile that is a computer with an auto ap is not desirable because it requires a lot of mental effort to effect the change. So, our car is a perfectly running ‘98 Honda Civic and a ‘06 Sprinter van. Both are pre total computer totality although the Sprinter is right on the verge.

Some very large changes are very beneficial, especially to those of us who have become very old.

Perhaps the best and greatest change is by stores. I no longer need to go to several places to buy stuff.

Walmart has just about everything and if you buy more than $35 at a time the delivery to my house is free. Everything can be delivered but for a small order, there is a charge.

My wife who’s mobility has become limited makes a grocery order on line from two different stores. One of us drives to the store where it is delivered directly to our car. I can and do go to one of the grocery stores to get things she forgot or something special requiring on the spot pre purchase observation.

At Lowes, one can order what you want on line and it will be placed in the pick up bins that don’t require you to walk over the acres of store to find what you need.

If guns were legal in big cities, you’d see more politeness there as well.

Aren’t guns now legal in big cities?

Aren’t the big city gun laws thrown out?

I’m in the same age bracket.
I don’t regret nearly anything except for my ex wife and she did teach me the love of travel.
I don’t do any social media except for FR.
A Porsche 911 or Audi R8 will be my last car.
Two best decisions I made was going back to school for engineering and buying my home in Scottsdale AZ.
Now I have two homes here and a successful business.
I’ve met the love of my life in May 2024 just before I was going to go MGTOW.
Life is very good!

6.5 Creedmoor has its place. At least it doesn’t eat barrels like a .264 Winchester Magnum.

😊
