A mom of four from Indiana was fatally gunned down after arriving at the wrong address for her cleaning job — and her grieving husband, who watched her die, is now demanding justice.
Maria Florinda Ríos Pérez, 32, was shot dead just before 7 a.m. Wednesday as she and her husband, Mauricio Velázquez, arrived at a Whitestown home they’d been hired to clean, IndyStar reported. The couple, who are self-employed cleaners, checked the address twice and circled the neighborhood — a tiny suburb about 22 miles from Downtown Indianapolis — to make sure they were in the right place, the report said.
As they tried to get the keys they’d been provided into the door of the stately home — and Pérez teased her fumbling husband and grabbed the keyring from him — a single shot rang out, and the mother dropped bleeding to the ground.

“ Whitestown home they’d been hired to clean”
Title of article states otherwise.
Seems like self defense, someone uninvited, trying to gain entry to your home is usually not up to any good.
I am sorry the woman died but any similar job I had like pet sit, house watch, clean etc I met the people and got keys from the people. Not get keys from a boss and show up somewhere hoping to be in the right place.
The people at fault are not the person in the house, but the cleaning business owner and whomever asked to have a house cleaned. One of them botched the address, by accident or on purpose.
My Donkey is not been beaten into submission like the ones you see in the movies. I think he is half quarter horse.
We got him as an orphan from the 1919 Big Island Volcano eruption, where everybody had to evacuate and leave animals behind. Most our local ranch guys went out and rounded up the lost, loose animals.
His old home is under several feet of Lava that is still cooling.
I got a free baby Donkey. He makes a very good guard,
nothing comes into my property without him noticing it.
Since he’s half horse, he is rather intimidating
to most people, size wise, and he will attack.
They went to a house that was not expecting them. At 7am. Fiddling with the key doesn’t look good. Homeowner wakes up by disturbance...maybe owner is disabled...alone ..hears two voices...he is coming out of a deep sleep...owner panics..starts shooting..the cleaners have done this before... don’t they say “hello...is anybody home?” ?
Knock on the door? Before they try opening a door?
Could be a rare and tragic confluence of contributory errors by both parties. Very sad...but people get killed every day by drunk drivers...
Are the two people on the porch illegals?
The fact that the home resident is making no public statement is interesting. Not even identified.
The story told by the victims is a little too smooth.
The husband makes a point of saying the key never went in the lock.
Sounds coached.
Sunrise was at 0711 at my location today. Twilight at best. I have Ring cameras and motion detect lighting at the front door, so it would not have been a lighting issue.
It doesn't sound interesting to me at all. Guilty, or not, the only good option is to say nothing.
If the word “awful” in your post should be “unlawful”, the homeowner appears to be with8n the law.
I believe that could make the point in either direction. A bad shoot - or something could have been going down. Drug connected or whatever.
More info is needed. Tho, as unreliable as police reports and certainly press reporting can be, especially if a ‘protected’ group is involved. RR said “Trust but verify.”
Not identifying/confirming your target before pulling the trigger is negligent homicide, at the very least.
Whatever, pal. Have it your way. I’ll wait for more information.
You can chalk up this round to yourself, if that makes you feel good lol
Maybe I missed it, but I couldn’t find in the article where this shot actually came from.
Or the keys, for that matter. Or the “work order”.
And if the instructions (from whomever) said 123 Main St and the address on Main St. was marked 123, why the need to circle the neighborhood.
How many layers of illegals and illegality might be involved here?
On the artillery range with a 105mm battery I once heard, “Fire mission. Two Mormons on bicycles, direction zero two zero, from reference point alpha raise 100, right 25. Will adjust.
Yes, of course, the question is how the couple was dispatched, and my implicit point is that our intrepid reporters didn’t dig into that (or if they did they didn’t report on it). Rather strange under the circumstances.
>> they would have been better off if they stayed in Guatemala.
Yep.
“Reporters”, in general, are lazy slobs.
Nobody has yet been charged with a crime so as of now, there is no perp to identify.
Did the trigger pull itself?
Journalism is supposed to answer the questions "Who? What? Where? When? Why?"
My bet is a "who" pulled the trigger.
I never met a self-employed cleaner that didn’t know English fairly well.
0700 would be dark in Indianapolis.
