FDNY Commissioner Robert Tucker handed in his resignation on Wednesday, less than 12 hours after Democrat Socialist Zohran Mamdani was announced the winner of New York City’s mayoral election.
The fire chief tendered his resignation the morning after anti-Israel Zohran Mamdani was declared the mayor-elect of New York City, according to a report by New York Daily News.
On Wednesday morning, Tucker informed New York City Mayor Eric Adams that December 19 will be his last day as FDNY commissioner, according to an email obtained by the newspaper.
“Between now and then, I will continue to lead the greatest fire department in the world and will ensure an orderly transition,” Tucker said in his letter to Adams.
While Tucker’s reasons for resigning were not immediately made clear, an FDNY source told New York Daily News that the fire chief — a Jewish philanthropist and businessman — felt he wouldn’t mesh well with the incoming mayor and his team.
Mamdani — a self-proclaimed socialist who has repeatedly refused to say that the terrorist group Hamas should lay down its arms — will be sworn in as New York City’s new mayor on January 1, 2026.
An Adams administration official told the newspaper that several others who serve as top aides to the mayor — including Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Kaz Daughtry — are also expected to submit their resignations in coming days.
Daughtry, who once served as NYPD deputy commissioner, has been Adams’ top public safety deputy at City Hall, as well as a key liaison between the mayor’s team and President Donald Trump’s administration.
As for Tucker, he plans to go back to running T&M, a private security firm he founded in 1999, sources told New York Post.

Imam-dani’s cage isn’t getting any bigger.
Great, so instead of standing in the gap and standing firm against socialist/communist take over, these officials were just faking their oaths and now simply hand the City over to evil.

Conservatives have watched for 35 years how other Conservatives leave them hanging without support.
This is what the people of NYC want. They voted for this guy. I think they should have him and his program. Let them be an example for the rest of the country. We all know what is going to happen. Sometimes, things have to get worse before they get better. We might as well get it over with now.
The vocabulary of virtue and vice has long been screened out of the public conversation by mass media and government schools, so it should be no surprise that appeals to virtuous behavior fall on deaf ears. People need to live their faith openly, especially people in public life, without apology or permission. We need to take the wind out of the prevailing secularist ideology that fills the air with silence and unfounded fear and turns the great moral calculus of public life on its head.
I wonder if the fire commissioner is it an appointed position.
“’This is what the people of NYC want”
.
No other Mayor could have a million people block NYC streets in the cause for HAMAS than Islamist Mayor Mamdani.
They grand stand as if they are going time courageous deed, while the retire in style in a public pensions.
That’s what republican, conservatives, libertarians do. They disagree so they leave. Dem, socialists, communists, and Progs. All dig in and fight. They beg to get into government.
It’s called adverse selection.
That’s what they always do when a new mayor is elected, haven’t you watched Blue Bloods? The commish works at the pleasure of the mayor. The mayor has to ask him back. It’s a game. Will the mayor ask him back or will some sultan be the new commissioner? Who can say? It’s not exactly a merit position.
This is what they want?
Then why does NYC have RCV?
If anyone from the WH is lurking...
Would it be possible to conduct a secure, online plebiscite to ask NYC residents to vote on whether or not this is in fact what the majority of them want...?
I bet Elon Musk could arrange it.
And the answer would be be good information to have.
Preach it! Post of the day! Amen.

Mamdani had a clear majority, so I don’t see how ranked choice figures into this. That said, I think ranked choice is too confusing for most people. If you want to make sure you have a clear majority, then have runoff elections.
