Game 6 of the World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays ended with one of the most controversial calls you’ll see on this stage.

Yes that’s what was said here on our tv. The ball was wedged under the fence.
Canadians don’t know how to do baseball fences.
It could have been easier to retrieve if it bounced off the wall, especially if the path was toward the pursuing fielder.
Well the MLB folks are thrilled about this, I wonder what the ratings in the US were for the series, now it’s got everybody talking about it, with Game 7 tonight.
I knew of this rule from back in High School, playing softball in PE Class, under supervision of the coach of our school’s baseball team. A ball got hit out to left field and stuck under the bottom edge of the perimeter chain link fence.
Barring that experience, tho’, I’d probably not know the rule.
Ground rule double. Period.
For endless, often ridiculous arguments we have FR. Hahahaha!
Maybe not, from the League's perspective. This play will likely result in some added revenue beyond just one more game in the Series...
But, according to the Rule, playability is not the issue.
This is somewhat similar to a stuck between rim and backboard basketball. Is there any player in the NBA who could not poke one such free? Most can likely jump and grab the thing.
LOL...Spot Onnnn!...A big factor in my remaining on FR is not taking it or myself seriously. In the latter case, neither does anyone else...
Well, the rules copied from the rule book at the link are pretty clear.
“The 1845 Knickerbocker rules...maybe you are exaggerating a tad..?”
Nope, not at all. These rules in New York were the fore runner of our baseball rules today. In this meeting in 1854, they further defined the effect of a ball that leaves the playing surface under rule 16:
“But one base allowed if the ball, when struck, bounds out of the field.”
https://www.vbba.org/knickerbocker-rules-new-york-1854/
The current rule now awards two bases from time of pitch and the bottom or behind wall of the pad is considered out of play which it touched and was resting against. This is the rule today under the last change in 1954.
However. due to the owners trying to make the fan comfortable with the rules they seem to look past the same rules for infielders fall out of play into the stands on pop ups thus carrying the ball into an our of play area. He was smart for doing what the current rule said to do. Saved a run.

There is no “right” call you idiot. It’s a judgement call. The ball was not lodged.
Buy a clue. You know nothing about baseball, on any level.
You know nothing about baseball or like for that matter. I’m so far above you, you cannot even see me.
Well, no matter who wins the game you’ll always be a huge loser, Joe.
And you’re still wrong about the trapped ball call. In fact, you revealed yourself to be an idiot when it comes to baseball.
Quit drinking and grow up Joe.
The Spun’s majority owner is Manoj Bhargava. Look him up and then talk to us about rules ...
