Hoosier cabinets are plentiful in my area! You want to know the funny thing about the one you’ve shown? In my dining room, I have the bottom half of that Hoosier in there and use it for storage beneath and a buffet on top. Ours has a wooden top, of enameled, so I never knew it had a former life as a Hoosier cabinet until now!
We found it 30 years ago at our church’s Trash and Treasure tent when we had a festival there (someone’s trash is someone else’s treasure). Well, they had that cabinet marked for $20, and we were dirt poor. We needed something for the kids to put board games and toys in, so that was in our family room for the longest time. When we moved to Indiana, it found a home in the dining room. I have never been able to part with that piece. It is so versatile, and holds a LOT of stuff (larger serving pieces mostly). Very functional.
I love fixing things up and making them new again. Years ago, at my favorite consignment furniture shop, I found an actual antique mahogany ornately carved full sized headboard and footboard with the sides. It needed a LOT OF ATTENTION. It was beautiful but was very dry and had cobwebs all over and under it. It needed a thorough cleaning and revitalizing and that just what I gave it.
Once it was ready to come inside the house, hubby had to revamp the rails. There were no screw holes, it was pegs that fit into carved holes. It needed to be braced because the rails were just loosey goosey. After we got it stabilized it was ready for a board with a mattress on top. It couldn’t accommodate a box spring. It’s in one of our guest rooms and is a lovely bed for a single adult or the grandkids.
If we ever have to move it, it will take more work than a modern bed to take apart. I hope that’s not necessary for a long time!
Pumpkin Brownies Stuffed with Oreos
Awesome! Moist, fudgy, chocolatey, You must try this. Serves 12
Ing 15 oz pkg brownie mix, 15 oz can 100% pure pumpkin, 16 Pumpkin Spice Oreos
How to Grease 8x8" baking pan bottom. Combine brownie mix, pumpkin; batter will be very thick. Spread about half in pan. Place Oreos on top, touching not overlapping. Press down gently.Add rest of batter. Bake 350 deg 25 min.
Vary Use Golden Oreos, or fall flavors; Maple Creme, or
Halloween w/ orange cream. Can add chocolate or white chips.

We get a hard freeze (24 deg. F) Sunday night / Monday morning, and then again a degree or two colder Monday night / Tuesday morning. So, that’s gonna be “it” for any veggie plants outside. I’ve brought the handful of various hot pepper plants in already: Usually the Thai peppers will overwinter and even produce some peppers for us in good light and a warm spot. One plant is 3+ years old! The others (Jalapeno, Cowhorn, Serrano) I’ve not tried to overwinter B4, so, we shall see how it goes.
I even brought in an Ichiban eggplant that looks quite healthy so far. The problem is where to put it: I am looking at it in the kitchen, right now! Can’t stay there... It is ~5 t. tall and skinny, so, at least it doesn’t take up much floor space.
The NWS long term forecast about a month back, of warm until Thanksgiving, hasn’t exactly panned out. :-(
1 Cup Coffee Grounds, 1 tsp. Cinnamon, 1/2 tsp. Cardamom, 1/4 tsp. Nutmeg, 1/8 tsp. Ginger. Mix and brew as you normally do.
Thank you for the tips! Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? I’m considering spots for these two plants, and wondering where they might do best. One is pretty large, 3-4’ tall and about 2’ at the widest part. Like a large houseplant. Do you use grow lights on yours, or just give them the sunniest spot you can? I think it’s cool that one of them is over 3 years old.
That is ONE gorgeous Hoosier! Well worth the price if you can afford it. That’s a pretty cool website, too; lots of stuff to drool over. ;)

Today is the big day for wild experiments here in OK. Will be moving a container with a tomato plant and one with lettuce inside, to the recently cleared-out south bedroom. There’s a front coming this afternoon, with very cold wind chills, so the first half of today is the LAST CHANCE to try saving these plants. Fingers are crossed! Even if both plants die from transplant shock, I have to try. :-)

41 today. ‘Slushstorm’ starts at 1pm. Down to 26 tonight, so Sunday will be an icy mess. Ugh. Glad I can stay home.
Plans for the day are to get the dogs all in and out before 1pm. Stew the Steer is fed and watered. Had to go down to the pasture and turn off the hydrant that fills the water trough - don’t want it to freeze! And that’s quite the HIKE - it’s not FAR but it’s UPHILL BOTH WAYS! (Well, it FEELS like it!)
Inside chores will take over this afternoon. Houseplant watering and maintenance, getting out my warmer clothes and sorting through summer stuff - if it wasn’t worn this summer it goes to St. Vinnie’s. Rules Is Rules! Then I take stock on how many more hoodie sweatshirts and leggings I will need to get through the winter, LOL!
Baking a Quiche for a good number of breakfasts (and dinners with a side salad) to eat all week and to use up some eggs and odds and ends in the veggie drawer.
Opening Day starts for the Mule Deer Hunt out in CO. Jeff and Beau have most likely been in position since dawn. They saw about 40 deer scouting yesterday, but none big enough that they wanted to harvest. So, at least the Mule Deer are actually THERE - it’s always hard when they hunt Elk because unless it snows, the Elk stay WAY up on the mountainsides and don’t come down to browse.
All in all, Life Is Good! :)
