The term Jew is used in at least two senses in Scripture: to refer to those who are ethnically Jews and to those who are religiously Jews. Jesus was a Jew in both senses. In fact, he completed the Jewish religion by serving as the Messiah (Christ) whom the prophets had long foretold.
The completed form of the Jewish religion is known as Christianity, and its adherents are Christians or “followers of the Christ.” Unfortunately, many people who were ethnically Jewish did not recognize Jesus’ role as Messiah and so did not accept Christianity, the completed form of Judaism. Instead, they stayed with a partial, incomplete form of Judaism. Other Jews (the apostles and their followers) did recognize that Jesus was the Messiah and embraced the new, completed form of Judaism

I was born and raised catholic, and I am a nominal catholic today.
 Jesus Christ is my savior.
The is no “was” about Jesus.
Caths got great outfits!
…only on his mother’s side.
So did the Nazis.
The Inquisition, of course.
A lot of people don’t understand Jesus is a Jew but he’s the central part of Christianity. I have a hard time explaining it.
I think it has something to do with that whole Council of Nicaea (sp?) thing.
Acts 15:16-21
‘After this I will return
and rebuild David’s fallen tent.
Its ruins I will rebuild,
and I will restore it,
17 that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
even all the Gentiles who bear my name,
says the Lord, who does these things’[b]—
18 things known from long ago.[c]
19 “It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. 20 Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood. 21 For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath.”
Modern Judaism isn't merely incomplete. Over the centuries, the rabbis corrupted it by adding the Talmud and Kabbala.
Modern Judaism isn't the Judaism that Christ was born into.
If first believers were called Christians, why are there Catholics?
ACTS 11:26
which was also of course...unexpected
Biblical Judaism was ALWAYS centered around YESHUA.
You are called to be part of a community, not to worship as a line wolf.✝️
You might as well ask:
If first believers were called Christians, why are there Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, Calvinists, Anglicans, Orthodox, Evangelicals, etc.
Answer: They are Christians. All of them.

Simply put, Jesus is the Messiah that Jews had hundreds of prophecies about in the Old Testament. Jews WANT a Messiah, but they don’t believe that Jesus is The One. Why, I don’t know.
The Old Testament, and Judaism, is all about The Law (The Ten Commandments, the first five books of The Bible, etc.). God’s plan is that we cannot get to heaven by works, or by staying true to The Law. It is impossible for humans to remain sinless. So He gave us Jesus, who atoned for all of our sins in God’s eyes, by dying on the cross. Jesus paid the penalty and atoned for all our sins.

Mohammed wanted so much to be a Jew that he fashioned himself a Jewish prophet, and went to the Jews of Medina with high hopes. It didn't quite work out as he expected.
Jesus' existence was a threat to the religious institution in Jerusalem. They didn't want to lose their influence, power and control and that was what the presence of Jesus did.
The temple, the priests and their necessity was threatened and they eliminated the threat that was Jesus before they lost all they held dear.
JMO, YMMV
