A 21-year-old Indian truck driver, Jashanpreet Singh, accused of causing an eight-vehicle crash in Southern California that killed three people, appeared in a US court without his turban—sparking outrage in India. Many, including Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal, demanded that his turban be returned. A petition has also been launched, describing Singh's bareheaded court appearance as "a violation of Sikh faith" and urging authorities to "restore his religious rights and ensure a fair trial."

Former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal, in a post on X, said he met the family of the accused, who asserted that Jashanpreet was not under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident.
"They firmly asserted that Jashanpreet, a hard-working youth, had been falsely accused of being under the influence in the tragic I-10 crash in San Bernardino County (US). They told me that the toxicology claims are a grave error and should be reviewed," Badal wrote.
"The distressing images of Jashanpreet being produced in court bareheaded—a violation of his Sikh—heighten our concern. Let justice prevail with mercy," he added.
In the post, he also urged Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to ensure Jashanpreet's rights are protected.

In the USA we do not have a church of the USA. It is separate.

The guy murdered 3 people and seriously injured others, and caused lots of property damage and hardship to the AMERICAN families.
I don’t give a rip about anyone’s *dignity* or decorum at that point.
He's not an American citizen.
Besides, it's NOT a violation of our Constitution. Or do you consider it Constitutional right for muslims to carry out jihad against us, or vandalize church building, too? And then it would be unconstitutional for us to prosecute them in your book.
Also, the court system is not Congress and they are not making a law regarding a religion, so there is no violation of the Constitution.

As per the Sikh religion, the turban is NOT mandatory, but keeping his hair uncut (a la Samson) is Mandatory.

The thing is that wearing a turban is not a religious obligation for Sikhs.
Keeping their hair long and uncut IS a religious obligation. Now he could wear it loose or tied into a bun or in a turban, but as long as it wasn’t forcibly cut, there is nothing against the Sikh religion here
