If I reduce my triglycerides now, I'll probably be drooling all over myself in no time. I think I did see this at the time, but it was long gone from the noggin until today.
Why does the Fifth Third Bank have that name?
It’s awful, just the worst name in corporate history. Fifth and Third merged, but Fifth was somewhat larger. The website is 53.com, you’d think that Bank 53 or 53 Bank or even just 53 would be better, and certainly no worse. One and two-thirds Bank would probably have been a better choice.
I’m waiting for the Fifth Third takeover of Field and Main (KY/IN).
F&M’s home office is in Massie’s district, which probably doesn’t mean anything.

I have always thought that was the stupidest name ever for a bank.
53 Skadoo would be an improvement.
On June 1, 1908, Third National Bank and Fifth National Bank merged to become the Fifth–Third National Bank of Cincinnati.
The bank should have a "name the bank" contest. "Last National Bank" -- it's an old joke, probably from Bugs Bunny.
The big Calvinist church in downtown Philly is Tenth Presbyterian. Not sure whatever happened to First through Ninth.
I've seen an "Eighth Reformed Church" around here. Not sure how high the numbers go. Both answers are probably available in The Encyclopedia of American Religions, edited by J. Gordon Melton.
I guess they couldn't call themselves the Third Fifth Bank because that would remind people of the three-fifths compromise (about counting slaves in the US census).
Plus, it would imply that the entire branch staff was bombed.
I don’t know, but if Comerica Park in Detroit (Tigers) is renamed to “Fifth Third Park”, it won’t be any kind of improvement.
I had a high school English teacher who loved puns. Once we were discussing the word “still” and after we had identified four different parts of speech it can be (verb, noun, adjective and adverb), he asked “Can we get a fifth out of still?”
Chances are good, but only if there’s an old Model T radiator involved.
