I would not like to be in Jamaica when this hits. I had to replace my roof last year after Hurricane Milton hit Florida. Milton was not nearly this intense.
This might not be popular but I hope Trump can come up with a rebuilding financial package for Jamaica, otherwise the Chinese will.
But it certainly sounds like they’re going to need a lot of help. This thing’s a monster.
Hurricane Melissa is now recording 188 MPH winds at the surface.......................
The NOAA Hurricane Hunters were heard “We are not going anywhere near that thing until we get paid!”.
They have actually supposedly brought some out of retirement
Surf's Up for sure.....
And there are still jerks on FR downplaying it as just a rainstorm.
"It's not the wind, it's what's in the wind." At 188 mph, that's everything. Including roofing tiles, uprooted trees...
Forecast models can only do so much to predict.
There’s just too many factors and variables in a dynamic system like that.
Gotta make the most of the big scary...since there were so very very few this year.
Did the pilot say “They aren’t paying me to fly into a storm like that. In fact, they aren’t paying me at all”.
More to think about. The mechanic that serviced the plane isn’t getting paid either.
For sure. My curiosity, verging into concern, is that the farther west the thing goes before it turns north, the closer to Florida etc. it will be when it goes by.
All of the models without exception had Melissa going north long before now, and yet it's still going west, even south-west in the last few hours. Hurricanes have been known to make sudden 90-deg bends -- Iniki did that and damn near destroyed Kauai Island in Hawaii in the early 90's. Maybe Melissa will spare Jamaica a little by going farther west, but then I worry about the southern US....
Perhaps the carrier group Geral R. Ford that has been redirected to the Caribbean (Venezuela) could be diverted for humanitarian purposes. An aircraft carrier can supply desperately needed electricity and fresh water to a devastated emergency zone.
Just so the mechanics were sober the pilots don’t matter.
I gather Samaritan’s Purse will help, they’re a good org to give to.
Could ShutDown Schumer be the reason the Hrricane Hunters had shutdown.
What’s even worse that the wind speed is that NHC has the storm moving at only 2 mph.
Melissa, my dear: she’s wild & wet when she comes.
But when she leaves she takes your house and car.
