Legend says that George Washington once chopped down his father's cherry tree.

Satellite images show President Donald Trump's project to build a $300 million grand ballroom has appeared to take down at least six trees on the White House grounds -- including two historic magnolia trees commemorating Presidents Warren G. Harding and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The satellite images released on Thursday provide the fullest picture yet of the extent of the demolition work on the White House's East Wing and its effect on the surrounding parkland -- changes made without consulting the government commission established by federal law to ensure the preservation and integrity of government buildings in D.C., according to former commission officials who spoke to ABC News.

What did these trees do that made them go down in the history books?

Magnolias and poplars are trash trees. So are pines.

one place it says “removed,”and a caption on a picture says
“cut down,” so unclear. trees can be transplanted. perhaps we’ll learn more.

Trump could personally cure cancer and the left would condemn it

One Democrat tree, one Republican tree.

Seems fair.

Not to mention the Gold King Mine fiasco. I would say scandal, but the drive-bys refused to give much coverage to it.

Had to look around a bit but looks like the two historic trees were relocated. One was planted by Jill in 2023.

Let’s get some perspective on trees. They are big weeds, made of cellulose. They have life spans. When they get in our way, we chop them down. Often, if they are made of quality wood, they end up as structural members or furniture.

Because they are weeds, when one falls, others take its place.

It is silly to be emotional about a tree.

I’d pay to see any FDR memory item cut down. Harding was a boob, so no loss there, either.

The day they can plant a blight-resistant American Chestnut in the middle of the South Lawn, THEN I’ll care.

I bet some specialty saw mills got ahold of these trees and will sell the wood for a nice price to those that want the wood to make special projects and they can say the wood came from the White House.

In one of those Tornadoes that went through Andrew Jackson plantation in Hermitage, TN and blew down some very old trees. Some one came in with a portable saw mill and cut up the trees and made a nice fortune from the wood selling to people that wanted the wood for it's historical value, the fellow probably won a bid to do it. I don't if it maple trees, or oak trees or something totally different. I would like to do something like that, but I would have to win the lottery to do something like that.
