A Maryland high school student was handcuffed at gunpoint by cops after an artificial intelligence system confused his bag of Doritos for a firearm.
Taki Allen, 16, was waiting to be picked up from football practice at Kenwood High School in Essex, Maryland, when he said police walked up to him with guns and demanded he get on the floor.
'At first, I didn't know where they [were] going until they started walking towards me with guns talking about "Get on the ground!"' he told WBAL. 'I was like, "What?"'
Body camera footage obtained by WJZ showed police detaining Allen and a group of his friends around 7pm on Monday.
'Do you have a gun on you?' he said. 'Do you have anything blue that looks like a gun?'
What he had was a crumpled–up bag of Doritos that he was holding up with two hands and one finger out.
Baltimore County schools started using an AI gun detection system in 2023, which utilizes existing school cameras to identify people and nearby objects.
If a gun is detected, an alarm is promptly sent out to school officials and police.

AI is a Virus
It might have been folded into the shape of a gun. Like a school kid’s sandwich the he bit into the shape of one. A DEADLY PB&J!
Doritos?
If it were Tostitos, I could see that.
But Doritos?...................
Good thing it wasn’t a half eaten Pop Tart
He’d be full of holes by now
The LLM is no match for human natural stupidity.
So he had a finger gun (and a Doritos bag). Wow! Big threat.
And if he would have accidentally moved his hands too fast he would have been tried, convicted, and exterminated in two seconds...
Back when I was in high school almost every student would be bringing in Doritos and trying to trigger the gun detector just to taunt the school administrators and cops and to break the system. It would probably continue for a couple of weeks until we found something else shiny to distract us.
Too many Doritos CAN BE A WEAPON. Ask any Weed Muncher.
“And if he would have accidentally moved his hands too fast he would have been tried, convicted, and exterminated in two seconds...”
Yep. Just think what would have happened if he had reached for his wallet to take out his student ID?
“Yep. Just think what would have happened if he had reached for his wallet to take out his student ID?
Yep... Absolutely. He is probably lucky there were other civilians around.
AI cops are getting as bad as phone cops.
It's a brave, new world.
More like a bioweapon.
Check
35 years later? I guess it really did go on his permanent record.
(Yeah, I know. I violated FR custom and actually read the story at the link, and it said 3.5 years, not 35.)
Who the heck did they think he was, John Wick?

"Once, I saw him kill three men in a bar with a f**king corn chip."
