A growing number of Republicans on Capitol Hill have raised concerns about President Trump’s expanding war against drug cartels carried out without consultation or authorization by Congress, and are pressing for more information and involvement in a campaign whose legal basis remains murky.
Most in the group have not expressed explicit opposition to the strikes that have been carried out so far against boats in the Caribbean Sea and, this week, expanded to the Pacific. The vast majority of Republicans have enthusiastically rallied behind them, and this month, all but two of them voted to block a measure that would terminate the president’s campaign.
But for a G.O.P.-led Congress that has seldom questioned Mr. Trump on any matter, foreign or domestic, the skepticism reflects a rare and potentially significant bit of dissent over a widening war.
“We have oversight responsibilities, and we expect to get our questions answered,” Senator Mike Rounds, Republican of South Dakota and a member of the Armed Services Committee, said in an interview on Wednesday.

“I would suspect some sort of bombing campaign is next. I’m sure the CIA has a list of known camps that produce drugs and certain cartel members houses and hideouts.”
Close... What will happen next is the CIA will commandeer a Venezuelan missile battery and fire on the U.S. Vessels from within Venezuela. This false flag will justify full out war with Venezuela and the “drug” issue will be completely forgotten. Because it was not actually the true objective in the first place anyhow. Full out war with Venezuela was the real objective from the beginning.
You do not mobilize and deploy a whole Naval and land strike force including an Aircraft Carrier to the region just for a few occasional Fast Boats. Anyone who believes this kind of huge deployment is actually needed just to stop drugs is completely inept.
Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way .
Those are your life choices.
“In other words, they’re perfectly OK with the drugs coming in?”
No, of course not. But in other words, and I have been sharing it for a long time now, drugs are not the true reason they are doing this. It is just the “excuse” to gather support to do it, just like “Weapons of mass Destruction” was used. The motives are not what they claim they are.
corlorde is absolutely right and understands the true bigger picture.
Rand is a dope, and people who support him are bigger dopes.
I had to laugh when I read the “rarely opposed Trump” line, but I really did laugh at the “A quarter to a third of suspected drug boats are nothing of the sort” quote.
If they were randomly sinking boats departing from Venezuelan ports and heading North because they “thought they were drug vessels, that would be asinine because that would indeed be killing innocent people.
They have good intel on which boats to sink. That is why there have been six boats attacked, not dozens.
I trust they have good reason to attack when they do.
The posting of these threads has become incredibly stupid, and have reached the point of the “Baghdad Bob” like posts that resemble the Ukrainian threads which have thankfully diminished slightly. I enter them mainly for the entertainment value.
Im 100% with Trump on this. Probably the only politician I can think of that has gone after the cartels hard.
The future will confirm the truth or falseness of these suppositions. Will you get back to us at that point?:
Great point. I wondered why Hegseth and others emphasized the “international waters” aspect. It such a wonderful change to have people who take action and think outside the box in charge. Winning strategies.
Yes I will... I made a note and grabbed my own comment link for future use. Once one understands how the history of the bigger picture actually works it is easy to predict. It is NEVER what it seems...

It’s hard to see eliminating drug boats or cartels as war and peace so Congress is not involved at this point.
Trump said at a recent presser if there were to be land operations he would inform Congress.
Truly it is never what it seems however seeing the multifaceted reality is a difficult task, often impossible from outside the oval office. That’s what makes life interesting.

Fair enough. I’m not going to persuade many of you by the looks of things
Now, finally an objective discussion, and I very much appreciate that. I am a historian. And based on historical fact there is a pattern that is hard to ignore.
What is happening here is everyone is arguing over the best way to treat their Jungle Rot while they are in a Foxhole being bombarded. That Jungle Rot is truly the very least of our worries.
Bin Laden did not get due process. Are you OK with his demise?
LOL
I was going to add to my reply that yeah, I have a few concerns about just wasting them military-style. I don’t expect that this will turn into a regular thing.
I think however some of our Congress critters are really just sort of addicted to arguing about stuff rather than doing anything, even in the face of a demonstrated emergency. That’s why it’s a good idea (in my humble opinion) not to keep any of them at the next vote. They should all be replaced. The ones everybody loves can serve the government in some other capacity - they should not stay in elected office forever.
They usually get dead. Check out how many people running for office in Mexico, or those who are holding office when the thugs come rolling in, get assassinated. Just in Mexico all by itself - if you count Central/South America you find a lot of politicians are assassinated.
Well, 200k/yr ODs, you might think its okay to ACTUALLY have a war on drugs. Butt.....💰🚤
Congress authorized it there is a difference.
IIRC isn’t there a declared war on drugs?
So we blow up the drugs and the runners are just collateral damage.
Fentanyl has killed hundreds of thousands of Americans. Extreme measures are justified.
BTW are you upset because you are being priced out of the Fentanyl market?
