Major Hollywood Union Says Paramount Taking over Warner Bros. Discovery Would Be a ‘Disaster’ as Trump Backs the Bid

The Hollywood writer’s union is raising the alarm over the possible merger between Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Skydance, saying that such a merger would be a “disaster,” but President Donald Trump says he is all for the plan.

On Thursday, the Writers Guild of America put out a statement warning about the proposed merger, according to The Wrap.

“Merger after merger in the media industry has harmed workers, diminished competition and free speech, and wasted hundreds of billions of dollars better invested in organic growth. Combining Warner Bros. with Paramount or another major studio or streamer would be a disaster for writers, for consumers and for competition,” the union’s statement read. “The WGAW and WGAE will work with regulators to block the merger.”

Paramount Skydance has been pursuing the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) for quite a while and has made three offers to date, with one ringing in at $60 billion. And WBD has stated its intention to launch a “review of strategic alternatives to maximize shareholder value.”

The Writers Guild has been targeting WBD for several years, accusing the company of broken promises, anti-competitive practices, and canceling billions in film and TV projects in a cost cutting move.

The president, though, has reportedly spoken positively about the merger idea.

Hmmmm... Writers Guild huh... so THESE are the guys that make up the plots for “60 Minutes”, “CNN News Central”, “Good Morning America”, “NBC News Daily”, “Rachel Maddow Show”, MSM news programs like that, right? I always wondered who did the actual writing for those. They have great imaginations!

With the large number of streaming services available and each charging its own fee there isn’t room for everyone to make enough money to stay in business. Netflix Hulu Disney Peacock Paramount MGM Apple Amazon HBO Showtime. Netflix is 25 a month. All the others want 14.95 and extra to not show commercials. Cable was 80 before all the streaming. Nobody wants to pay for all the services.

The writers guild would rather see Warner Brothers go out of business.

YouTube TV has been my cable replacement. I get HBO Max included in my cell phone plan. Amazon Prime pays for itself with the shipping costs I save over the course of a year.

I won’t pay any extra for Netflix, Hulu, Peacock etc.

Well, if the entertainment industry actually produced something worthwhile and necessary for human existence, this might be an issue.

As it is, they’re only freaking out cause it’s potentially costing them jobs.

Yup.

But leftists think they’re entitled to a lifetime of unchanging circumstances and if real life happens to them, they can’t handle it and IT’S. NOT. FAIR!!!!!!!!

They can learn a real skill and get a real job and actually do something that produces something worthwhile.

If the unions hate it, then it must be good.

If you don’t have to see everything the day it is released, ie; a year or two down the road, everything is available on the internets for free.
If one must be part of the conversation, while the nags on the view are talking about it, one must pay the “stupid” fee.
