Furloughed federal workers in Maryland stood in a food bank line Tuesday as the government shutdown continues and families try to figure out how to put food on the table.

The Capital Area Food Bank began free food distributions for federal workers and contractors this week in Hyattsville. With an hour to go before food was handed out, a long line of people waited for help.

Yes they do. A long time ago I was a board member on our local food bank and have contributed for years. A couple years ago the Oregon Food Bank went political and turned it into a money laundering scheme for democrat projects. They still give out food but there is skimming at some level.

There have been recent lawsuits when the media lies. Maybe the media has learned.

21 years in the military yields a 52% pension, and on top of that, she was earning a salary as a civil servant. Seems like a little room for some savings there, and she will continue to receive the pension.

The MSM could have found a better subject for its de rigueur sob story.

Beef sausage and frozen vegetable medleys.
Mac n’ Cheese (macaroni), and white rice dishes in general, are bad for Type 2 diabetes. For individuals with type 2 diabetes, traditional macaroni and cheese is high in refined carbohydrates, saturated fat, and sodium, which can cause significant blood sugar spikes. Substitutes can be used to make Mac n’ Cheese safer to eat, but Kraft will, metaphorically, kill you.

When my wife got sick and in the hospital, I had no income for 3 months. I lived off my food stash with occasional buys for 8 months. I could stop buying groceries today and live for 2 months without any additional food.

You cannot tell me that high paid union workers are already out of food with no money to buy.

THEN CALL YOUR DEMOCRAT REPRESENTATIVE AND GET THE WORD UP TO WASHINGTON TO PASS A CONTINUING RESOLUTION NOW WITHOUT THE HEALTHCARE PORK BARREL GARBAGE. OTHERWISE, YOU'RE NOT TOO BAD OFF.

The fed gov offers a very nice alternative to a 401k called the TSP.

Classes are offered all the time to assist in managing it.

One of the great features is you can borrow from it and the interest to pay yourself back is very low......I’m sure this brainiac never took advantage of what is an awesome benefit.

I detect a spending problem, not an income problem. They are mutually exclusive.

What’s she griping about? The food is free. But even if it weren’t, Veterans can shop at military commodity stores, where meat is way cheaper than it costs you or me.

“Furloughed federal workers in Maryland stood in a food bank line Tuesday “

BS. I bet these are crisis actors. Anyone who can’t withstand a few months of unemployment without starving is an idiot.

The media likes to portray all federal workers as paupers living hand to mouth.

Am I suppose to feel bad? After 21 years she doesn’t have a penny to fall back on?

ANd I just don’t care. Any one of these bureaucrats can point at a map on the wall, pull my tax files, or make something up and destroy everything I’ve worked for (they did), take my house (they did) and shutter my business (they did) because they feel like it. It wasn’t some billionaire who had my property seized through eminent domain or shuttered my industry for kung flu. It was a bureaucrat. And unlike these whining leeches I didn’t get unemployment or any other gibs like these jerks.

I’ve always keep enough money to go about 6 months if needed. I also have a years worth of high quality prepper food for two. It’s called common sense.

If you’re at a food bank after being out of work for a couple weeks you’re pathetic.

YES food banks do very good work for those who really honestly need the free food.

We have about a dozen free grocery giveaway places within a few miles.

The closest one happens to be at a public school.
Once we were at the school for an unrelated meeting.
We happened to see the free food distribution. One some days, they have boxes and boxes of free food all pre-packaged and then just ask recipients to drive thru - the volunteer staffers toss the boxes into the cars. On the day of our visit at the school, they had their second method set up..nice big tables organized by type of free foods (one table for meats, one for bakery, one for fresh fruits, one for fresh vegies, one for tinned foods, one for household products like cleanser, soap, aluminum foil, and so forth. Each recipient was given a color-coded postcard and was called up by that color, this helped keep everything easy and uncrowded at the tables.

Both systems of free food giveaways were very well organized and conducted. And anonymous. They asked for a voluntary email addresss or phone number just in case a scheduled free groceries distribution date had to be postponed for any reason, the recipients would be given notice so that they didn’t have to drive over to get nothing. Giving the contact number was totally voluntary. No ID required whatsoever.

the one thing we couldn’t help noticing was this: the entire parking lot (a big one) was filled up with ALL NEW CARS. there was nary a single old vehicle present. not one. And we got a good laugh, too, watching a supposedly-impoverished, needly young man of age about 25 or so trying to stuff 8 full boxes of free groceries ($500 worth?) into his itsy bitsy teeny weeny little Porshe 911 Carrera sports car. Ha Ha! (These cars start about about $150,000 stripped before tax and dealer add-ons).

We didn’t see even one recipient with a visible disability. Perhaps the young guy with the $200,000 sports car was picking up groceries for someone who genuinely needed them?

All in all a very interesting accidental encounter with a free grocery handout operation. It was all volunteers and extremely well conducted. The groceries were, we were told, almost all government-paid-for at this particular distribution center (meaning, our tax money), though a couple of other places are church or charity funded.

ps:
the groceries looked to be all fresh and at least equal in quality, with some major brands, equal to the local middle-range supermarket.
just free.

So you didn’t save and now you are standing in a food line. Oh my GOD, I’m still looking for my violin and the thimble it was in.

For a democrat, losing a cushy government job is like a death sentence. They will never, ever get a job in the private sector because it requires performance and results. I hope President Trump fires millions of federal employees (they are not federal “workers”). Let them compete with the illegal aliens for food and shelter. /spit
