Trump calls Democrats ‘kamikaze pilots’ as shutdown standoff hits third week with no end in sight

President Donald Trump blasted Democrats for prolonging the government shutdown in an interview on Sunday, vowing to permanently eliminate what he called Democratic "welfare programs."

"The Democrats are kamikazes right now. They're kamikaze pilots right now. They have nothing going. They have no future," Trump said during an exclusive interview on "Sunday Morning Futures."

Trump argued that Democrats lack strong leadership and viable candidates for upcoming elections. He said the shutdown stalemate gives him leverage to cut billions in programs Republicans have long wanted to eliminate.

"They didn't realize that that gives me the right to cut programs that Republicans never wanted — you know, giveaways, welfare programs," he said. "And we’re doing that. We’re cutting them permanently."

The Trump administration claims that, under shutdown rules, it has the authority to freeze or suspend certain federal programs and projects.

The shutdown, now nearing its third week, began after Democrats refused to approve a funding bill unless it included an extension of enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies set to expire in 2025. As a result, pay for hundreds of thousands of federal employees has been put on hold.

Democrats argue that failing to act before open enrollment in November could leave millions of Americans facing higher premiums.

The White House says Democrats are pushing billions for Medicaid coverage for illegal immigrants, which Trump warns would "jeopardize" Americans’ healthcare.

aside from a few services, mostly this strike or whatever by the federal bureaucrats is not even noticed out here in the real world...

maybe we will be lucky and it will result in a signficant trimming back of the enormous fed bureaucracy over-growth!

Don’t the Republicans have at least 51 Senate votes to pass something they like, using the nuclear option to quask a 60-vore filibuster? If so, why the holdup?

A parent of one of my children’s classmates is an Air Traffic Controller. He has been complaining that he ‘hasn’t been paid in the last 2 weeks’. Is this the truth or are Air Traffic Controllers being paid?

No, make the dems come to the table. And slash and burn the federal excess in the meantime.

Either way, they lose.

Even CNBC had to agree:
“If the shoe was on the other foot a couple of years ago, the media would be going insane that Republicans had shut down.”
💥 Mullin’s point couldn’t be clearer: This shutdown isn’t about policy — it’s about power.
Schumer wrote the bill. Now he’s blocking it… just to score headlines against Trump.

permanently eliminate...Democratic welfare programs.

Lord, let it be. Answer to prayer.

Destroy the 80%+, $3+ trillion unconstitutional portion of the federal gov't including the unconstitutional & hideous Regulatory State, most if not all of the $1 trillion HHS beast, and ALL of the unconstitutional federal gov't "healthcare" apparatus, all of which is unconstitutional and, thus, illegal and corrupt, and does WAY more harm than good.

The Road to MAGA and restoration of our Free Constitutional Republic.

Depends. If they ran out of funds and can't use anything past 09/30, then they got paid through 09/30 and that paycheck was most likely received this last Thursday. It may not have been a full paycheck for them. Anything they worked after 09/30, they will receive as back-pay once the dimwitted democraps figure out they won't win and sign funding.

I guess because it “sets a bad precedent”. Though I suppose if it got bad enough the republicans would just do it eventually.
My guess is that the shutdown hasn’t had any impact on polling so they aren’t in much of a rush to open back up.

Interesting, how “Free Republic” fractures.

Good thing that Trump has the Federal Pubbies holding a little firmer.

If the Republican voters all turn out this midterm election it could brake the back of the democrat party and if some of the democrat voters see the dark days ahead they too will vote the right way.

If not otions will have ran out.

What happened to the kamikaze pilots of WWII?

Unintended backhanded reference.

As Schumer said after threats to us “Oh, I of course only meant that politically. No physically.”

“mostly this strike or whatever by the federal bureaucrats is not even noticed out here in the real world...”

When Social Security payments stop, or when airports are shut down for lack of controllers, people will notice. At that point, EVERY REPUBLICAN needs to point out the GOP had voted over 10 times now (IIRC) to re-open the government. 10 times on a clean bill, and Democrats refuse. Then ask people WHY the Democrats are refusing....

understood. yes.

sociable insecurity is sent out by computer, it need not be interrupted

air traffic control is, in my personal opinion, a serious issue that may well require shutting down some flights or even some airports. Although, the USAF has staff capable of getting the job done
