Moscow has proposed a 70-mile Elon Musk-built 'Putin-Trump' rail tunnel which would link Russia and America.
The tunnel, which would go under the Bering strait, would unlock joint exploration of natural resources and 'symbolise unity', a Kremlin envoy said.
The proposal has suggested using The Boring Company, a US tunnel construction company owned by Elon Musk, to construct the $8billion bridge.
It comes as the Kremlin desperately tries to stop Donald Trump from providing crucial Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
Kirill Dmitriev, President's Vladimir Putin's investment envoy and head of Russia's RDIF sovereign wealth fund, said Moscow and 'international partners', including Musk, could build the rail and cargo link in under eight years.
While it would typically cost more than $65bn, Musk's firm's technology could reduce the cost to under $8bn, Dmitriev said.
Dmitriev, who is behind a Russian charm offensive designed to revive US-Russian relations, floated the idea on Thursday after Putin spoke to Trump by phone and agreed to meet in Budapest to try to find a way to stop the war in Ukraine.
'The dream of a US–Russia link via the Bering Strait reflects an enduring vision — from the 1904 Siberia–Alaska railway to Russia's 2007 plan,' Dmitriev wrote on X.
'RDIF has studied existing proposals, including the US–Canada–Russia–China railroad, and will support the most viable.
The Bering Strait, which is 51 miles wide at its narrowest point, separates Russia's Chukotka region from Alaska.
Ideas to link the two points have been around for at least 150 years, with various projects drawn up but never implemented.
Dmitriev has forged ties with Steve Witkoff, Trump's special envoy, and spoken of the possibility of U.S. energy majors taking minority stakes in Russian projects in the Arctic.

There is no need for this. It’s cool and everything, but there is no need. It’s an engineering feat for the sake of an engineering feat.
Those big cargo ships carry more on each ship than any train that is two miles long could.
It would actually accelerate and grow trade through that route. It is a great idea to join forces with another great nation. I like it.
This is a project that makes the CA bullet train look reasonable.
Say what you want about this idea, it’d open up a whole array of Eurasian travel possibilities for aerophobics and naviphobics.

One the other hand, it would be great practice for Mars.
I remember listening to a great podcast regarding everything Musk is doing, and how much of it is geared toward use on Mars, and eventually large asteroids, moons, etc. Boring underground makes sense. Starlink satellites will someday orbit Mars.
SpaceX uses both methane and oxygen for fuel. We can get oxygen and methane on Mars. Someday, we might even tap into the Solar System's huge gas station orbiting Saturn. Saturn's moon Titan is just waiting for us. There are oceans of hydrocarbons on Titan. It rains hydrocarbons on Titan.

If you want to haul ore and minerals, you use very large ore carrying ships, not small trains running through undersea tunnels connecting two remote terminus points with no ore or metals processing capability. I can’t understand why you’d support it. But to each his own.
The last time I checked, there wasn’t a lot of commerce passing through the Bering Sea. Maybe fish.
I like it. Build it and they will come. Summer retreats to Trump’s hotels in the Diomedes’ or near the strait can offer 24 hour light stimuli to beat depression. (Which can jump-start a cure that will last beyond the weeks of the midnight sun).
In June. Sunrise 3:30 AM and sunset 23 hours later at 2:30 am. Think of the quality golf that can be played under the hypermanic influence of the midnight sun.

I like the idea.
There’s not a real good reason why we should be fighting with the russians and the chinese so long as there’s islamonazi’s running around the world waving green flags trying to murder saturday and sunday people.
Both the chinese and the russians are having trouble with the same muslims that we’ve been fighting for 225 years since jefferson in the war against the muslim pirates in 1801. We can bicker about trade deficits and intellectual property and style of governance. But when it comes down to it the real enemy is the barbary pirates again.
So, yeah i like this idea. We spend way more money on far less. And if we have to, we can sever the link at any time. In fact, it’s scary how easily this link would be snipped.
That’s what i think anyway.
But it IS perfect for Russia and China and North Korea to send columns of tanks and armored vehicle carriers into a sparsely defended corner of the Western Hemisphere.
