The Silence of the Successful: Why Indian Americans Aren’t Fighting for New Immigrants
Financial Express India ^ | 10/15/2025 | Rahul Menon

Many Indian-Americans have chosen to remain silent on H-1B changes and immigration struggles. This piece tries to decipher the reason, the pressures facing diaspora communities, and why success should come with responsibility.

-snip-

Created in 1990 under President George H. W. Bush, the H-1B program was designed to allow U.S. employers to hire foreign professionals to fill critical skill gaps. What is, in reality, a randomized lottery where every applicant has an equal chance of selection, regardless of nationality, is often mischaracterized as a program favouring Indians, simply because they make up the largest share of participants. Counting visa renewals as new approvals, without acknowledging that this cycle exists because of the restrictive country caps and the green card backlog paints a misleading picture of how the H-1B system actually works.

Despite being one of the most visible and affluent immigrant communities in the United States, Indian Americans remain conspicuously quiet about the struggles of newer immigrants. The backlash that followed Sriram Krishnan’s appointment as Senior Policy Advisor on Artificial Intelligence in December 2024, kicked up a hornet’s nest revealing an animosity towards the H-1B holders unlike anything seen before. The fear of reigniting such hostility is one reason many hesitate to speak openly in support of the program.

-snip-

During my conversation on the Area 51 Podcast with Ajay Bhutoria, former member of President Biden’s AANHPI (Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander) Commission, he pointed out yet another reason. A growing resentment among some first generation families who fear competition for their children. Having struggled to secure stability and success, many view new immigrants more as potential rivals in an already crowded rat race and less as peers on the same journey.

Standard globalist and leftist-American neo-marxist racial-identity BS, written by an Indian-American leftist, for Americans.

Class-identity, as viewed from NY City or Los Angeles liberals, is not being shared among actual South Asians? Can not compute!!

“Created in 1990 under President George H. W. Bush, the H-1B program”

Another immigration “gift” from the Bush clan.

What insane phrasing! Like they're being kicked out of their ancestral lands!

“lottery”

Either business needs the person or they don’t.

My suggested H-1B system:
1. replace the existing system with a salary-based, monthly in 2025 and weekly thereafter, auction system
2. start with 330 openings per bid period day [and to make the system employer demand responsive]:
a. increase openings by 10 per day, up to 500 openings per day, if the winning bid average goes higher
b. decrease openings by 10 per day, down to 200 openings per day, if the winning bid average goes lower
3. get rid of the bogus can’t find an American nonsense
4. limit H-1Bs to 10% of the number of full-time, directly employed, PPACA-regulated health care cost coverage plan covered employees of the employer having a college degree
....
7. fees
a. $2,000 per bid fee [to deter bogus/duplicate bids & prevent auction system denial of service], plus
b. a winner fee of 10% of the bid salary, or $8,000, whichever is higher [to compensate for reduced domestic search costs],
c. an annual inverse salary fee of 10% of the salary amount less than $200,000 plus 20% of the salary amount less than $120,000, plus
d. a payroll health coverage cost savings fee of $6 per week per year of age under age 65 [so highly experienced Americans not replaced by cheap, healthy young foreigners]
....

Hey, this is nothing!

The Indians only managed to take over Silicon Valley and Redmond!

Los Mexicanos (Los Pochos?) have always had a problem with Los Mojados - the newly arrived! But that was only a small problem. They all came together to take over California: the current generation here under 18 is 51% “hispanic” and only about 10% White...which we can refer to as “ethnic American”...i.e. without the hyphen.

So the Indians will get over it! Soons they get another Rat in the White Hut the Invasion will be back on again!

For comparison, here’s Raquel Tejada...later known as Raquel Welch...registering at San Diego State in 1958!

The ethnic composition of the room tells you all you need to know.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZYvLcYwsQE

There’s only 170M Mexicans on Erf right now! India is 10 times that! Rev up the 747’s, and bring ‘em on! We’re a “nation” of Eeemmeegrunts, Right?!

Simplicity, Brian, Simplicity.

No need for convoluted, Byzantine schemes to try to limit the Invasion.

Just cancel the whole damn thing.

India should abolish Christmas holiday? I say NO! All peaceful religions should be included in holiday. Mahatma Gandhi was big on tolerance. More religions were born and flourished in India because Hinduism is the most tolerant of all. Zorastrians are the latest example, they immigrated from Iran to escape intolerant Islam and is one of the most prosperous community in India. Hindu’s do not proselytize or send out missionaries to foreign lands.

There is no India. There is a subcontinent that is occupied by at least 30 different peoples who have been enthusiastically hating and killing each other since time immemorial, who only became a “nation” when the British Empire forced them to do so at gunpoint and who returned to the old ways the moment the British left in 1947.

Can you tell the difference between a Bengali and a Punjabi? *They* can, and despise each other for it.

In the 1980s, upper management in the American tech industries became enamored with the idea that India was just full of highly educated English-speaking people, and a great way to save money and speed up product development would be by outsourcing work to India. This didn’t work out for a variety of reasons that seem obvious in hindsight, so the H1B program was created to bring the workers *here*, with the idea that they’d be easier to manage and more productive if they were under direct American management.

That didn’t work out either, for reasons that are in hindsight obvious to anyone who studied the history of the British Raj. You don’t conquer India. India conquers you.

Good summary, but you forgot one major point:

South Asians are a Protected Class, assumed to be “disadvantaged”.

Thus hiring them filled Affirmative Action quotas in the ‘90s. You know, the quotas that Hubert Humphrey said would never be imposed?

The phrase was “blacks with brains”, to be impolite. A way to look open minded, diverse and caring and all that other touchy feely hogwash: they just wanted the FedGov off their backs (”hire non-Whites or we’ll sue the crap outta you!”).
