The Trump administration has ordered FBI employees in Washington, DC, and New York to immediately search their workstations and digital media for any records pertaining to the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, two law enforcement sources told CNN.
Employees in the FBI’s DC and New York field offices received a highly unusual message from their leadership flagged with high importance late Tuesday telling them: “Per a priority request from the Executive Office of the President of the United States, please search any areas where papers or physical media records may be stored, to include both open or closed cases, for records responsive to Amelia Earhart.”
FBI employees were given a priority deadline of Wednesday to respond to the request, which comes on the seventh day of an ongoing federal government shutdown.
Earhart was attempting to become the first woman to fly around the world when her plane went missing over the Pacific Ocean in 1937. She was declared lost at sea following a 16-day search.
President Donald Trump last month said he was directing his administration to “declassify and release all government records” related to Earhart.
“Her disappearance, almost 90 years ago, has captivated millions. I am ordering my Administration to declassify and release all Government Records related to Amelia Earhart, her final trip, and everything else about her,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Earhart, the first female pilot to fly solo over the Atlantic Ocean, broke a number of aviation records, and she has been a source of public fascination during her life and after.
Conspiracy theories have developed since the aviator’s disappearance, but as CNN noted in 2024, the US government suspected that Earhart and her navigator crashed into the Pacific when the plane ran out of fuel.

Sorry, I must ask why. Seems irrelevant & immateral considering what thee mission is here, which is to save this nation.
Absolutely. Try to find her the luggage Tom Hanks used in “Joe Versus The Volcano”.
If this is just like my home, you never find something until you are looking for something else.
The Imperial Japanese Navy has long been suspected of capturing and executing them............
I have seen articles and videos to that affect. It strikes me as being a possibility.
* My mother had a set of Sears Amelia Erhart luggage.
I always thought it was tempting fate when she flew anywhere*
I always saw her luggage mentioned on game shows when I was a kid. Even then I thought “Why would they name luggage after someone who flew and was never heard from again”?
Great, I love sideshows. 😁
There is an expedition in early November that is investigating an artifact just off the coast of an atoll. There is a very strong possibility that this is Earhart’s plane. The scuttlebutt is that this will prove she was a poor navigator. One could suppose that this information dig could be looking for evidence that there was another reason for her being off course. There has long been rumors that she was gathering intelligence against the Japanese.
This is CNN.....
Does anyone else think this could be completely fake news????
“The scuttlebutt is that this will prove she was a poor navigator.”
She just flew the plane, Fred Noonan was the navigator. My question is why anything about her and the flight has been “classified” for almost a century.
I hope they also immediately head to poucha pond and look for a second Olds delmont 88.
The immediacy seems odd.
I watched an interesting documentary on her. What stood out to me was the role her husband played in making her out to be more of a “brand” than anything else. It was mostly about fame and money to him.
Other female pilots with more experience and expertise had been interviewed back then and they made many comments such as, she wasn’t good at landing/sometimes made very hard landings due to lack of experience. She wasn’t physically fit, nor have the stamina for such long flights. She relied too heavily on her navigator for tasks she should have been able to figure out on her own because she had little skill of her own.
The craziest one was mention of weight on the plane. She carried so much luggage due to her many appearances they often had to make extra fuel stops since the plane couldn’t be fully fueled or be overweight. Sometimes it did fly overweight though. One interview spoke about watching her try to take off and clear a tree line which she was barely able to do.
Yeah. I would love to see the real truth on all the mistakes made for the price of fame and fortune that in the end cost her and the navigator their lives.
THIS JUST IN! Amelia Earhart STILL MISSING!!
She wasn't the navigator as this was not a solo flight. Her navigator was Fred Noonan who had a reputation for liking to pull a cork.
Guys, remember a couple of days ago we had the story about how that team from Purdue had found something on satellite pictures that they believe was her plane. I assume someone either wants to support them in either confirming what we know about that area, or not.
“Our info says she went THIS direction, not THAT direction. Save your money”.
Right after they play their 99th attempt at DOOM.
Who cares. She’s dead Jim.
Some group says they think they know where the plane is from aerial photos and they are going to this little island to hopefully bring the plane to the surface and identify it.
