I bought a Tesla 2 months ago, still learning new things about it. I didn’t do it “for the environment”. Strictly a transportation issue. I get the, uh, impression that more of us here than not are not a fan so I thought I’d throw out my admittedly brief personal experience if anyone here is curious.

Do you have fire insurance just in case of self-immolation?
I love it when family members of mine buy the EV.
My wife got the ICE hand me down.
Then 5 years later, another son got an EV, grandson got ICE hand me down
You are forgiven.
What was your personal experience?
I bought mine because it was time to replace my wife's gas crossover anyway and we drive it tons of miles (18K miles per year on home charged miles alone). By math, 12K miles per year is the threshold where the gas and oil change savings more than offsets the extra costs of an EV. (Based on 2022 prices of EV's vs gas cars.) That plus my interest in being more energy self-reliant to reduce the Dims' control-freak energy policies' ability to impact our budget while we move into retirement. So I have tons of solar (I can't produce my own natural gas or gasoline, but I can produce my own power).
I think if auto makers want to produce EV’s that’s great, if Tesla wants to be an EV manufacturer, that’s great too. Just don’t mandate it and take away by gas burning options. Let the free market decide.

I live in Iowa and would never own one. My son lives in Arlington, VA and when they had a blizzard, there was a 20 mile traffic jam and the Tesla’s made it worse since you can’t take a bucket of electricity and you’re good to go but most of the Tesla’s had to be towed.
The most recent issue I’ve seen is CARFAX may give a clean bill of health but if it’s been in accident, Tesla may ban the car from charging at one of their stations.
My wife loves her Tesla. I admit it’s pretty cool.
I’m definitely a fan of Tesla vehicles. It’s stupid to be against them.
Used or new?.................
lol. I hope everything is included in my comprehensive policy. My only experience with a car fire is when I owned a Pontiac Astre (?) that decided for some inexplicable reason to burn itself up overnight at a mechanic’s parking lot.

I never supported the subsidies or mandates.
If someone wants an EV, they have the choice to purchase one.
Hope yours runs well for you.
I didn’t support the subsidies and mandates either, but as Trump told Hillary, and I paraphrase, you’d be stupid not to take advantage of legal benefits if applicable.
Good on you.
I’d own a F150 Lightning if it came with a 6-1/2’ bed, but it does not. I need to have at least a 6’ ladder in my truck. The 12’er fits as well!
If I had solar, I would get an electric car.
This is shocking.
