A Florida city councilman is facing growing bipartisan calls for his removal after posting inflammatory comments about Indian Americans on social media and then doubling down on his remarks, triggering outrage from fellow Republicans, state legislators, and community members.
Palm Bay City Councilman Chandler Langevin wrote on X.com about people who are from India, accusing those living in the country of exploiting the United States, according to Click Orlando. His posts, which called for the deportation of all Indians and a halt to migration from India, have been widely condemned as racist.
Langevin stated last week on X: “There’s not a single Indian that cares about the United States. They are here to exploit us financially and enrich themselves.”
The posts calling for all Indians to be deported and attacking the Indian American community prompted immediate backlash, according to WESH 2 reporter Megan Moriarty. Rather than walking back his comments, Langevin has since doubled down on them.
Space Coast Daily reported that Langevin has claimed that fellow Republicans issued “copy-paste” statements in support of Indian Americans only because he had spoken out against migration. In a follow-up comment, he said that diversity is “not our strength” and criticized those emphasizing inclusion.

I think Desi is pretty standard now and as far as I know it’s not derogatory.
Thank you, I’ll try to remember that.
Cultural incompatibility and racial and caste nepotism
South Florida has a substantial Indian-American community. My niece married a third-generation Indian who is my ophthalmologist (and who removed my cataracts.)
There is no confusion among locals: South Florida has no significant number of H-1B workers.
This councilman is a pig.
You’re justifying an ethnic purge based on your anecdotal exposure?
I once had a rotten experience with a couple Polack (ex)clients, so we need to export all Polish people.
That’s not how America works.
My niece’s Indian ophthalmologist husband works for a Jewish-owned practice. Maybe we should target the Jews too, right?
“Deport all Indians” is not how you say “Reform the work visa system.”
“Cultural incompatibility”??
It’s not like that hasn’t been the argument against every immigrant group from the Irish onward, has it?
My neighborhood is now 70-80% Indian, and our schools are 60+%. Indian. Valley Ranch and Frisco seem to be desired destinations for Indians. The main issue I have with them seems to be their votes for Democrats. They don’t bother me, as I proudly present myself as a veteran and attend Veterans Day assemblies at the local schools.
“You’re justifying an ethnic purge based on your anecdotal exposure?”
More than one exposure, actually. MANY more than one.
But to answer your question: Yes. If immigrants from any country don’t assimilate totally into American culture, purge away, Baby. And by the way, LEARN THE F—KING ENGLISH LANGUAGE!
What our forefathers did, and how they sacrificed, is being sh!t on every single day by these people.
I didn’t always feel this way, but that was when they came here for the right reasons — to contribute and belong. Now they come to steal our tax money, bring their disgusting flags, expect US to speak THEIR languages, etc.
If they haven’t made that transition in the first five years... purge.
So please don’t act all sanctimonious. They are ruining America and need to leave.
I think that's certainly an exaggeration ... but not as much as you seem to think. The "India Mafia" problem in the engineering and software business is unmistakable.
Indian-Americans know English.
Everything you say echoes what was said about the Irish and the Germans and the Polacks and the Czechs....about Catholics and about Jews.
Back then they had the decency, and enthusiasm, to assimilate. (I guess you didn’t read my entire post.)
“Back then they had the decency, and enthusiasm, to assimilate”
They were treated like crap for generations. “Had the decency”???
And they rose above it. Good for them.
The councilman, pig or not, was talking about Indians as in citizens of India. The author kept conflating his mention of ‘Indians’ with Indian Americans. My gripe was with the author that didn’t know the difference.
It is often so poorly pronounced that it is absolutely beyond comprehension. I've had many times where I've had to have some Indian import I work with have to stop their presentation and write a mail instead.
Sounds par for the course, they take over neighborhoods. That's what I see in the Silicon Valley. I've had Indians - that don't know me, and I never met before - knock on my door asking me if I'm going to be moving soon.
Such friendly neighbors! Almost as much fun as when I have Indian beggars knocking on my door. (Which has happened multiple times.)
The main issue I have with them seems to be their votes for Democrats.
So they're well into the process of taking over your town, wiping out your American neighbors, and that isn't a problem? At least you note that they consistently vote for the communistic, violent, city destroying, baby-killing Democrats.
What an asset to the community!
They don’t bother me, as I proudly present myself as a veteran and attend Veterans Day assemblies at the local schools.
It sounds like you're retired, or not in one of their target professions. If you're in their way, trust me, they'll bother you - rudely, snidely, arrogantly.
Oh, and their proclivity to serve the US in the military is almost nil. It is viewed as beneath them (for the upper castes).
END ALL INDIAN IMPORT PROGRAMS - H-1B, GREEN CARD, OPT, SPOUSE WORK VISAS, EVERYTHING!
He speaks the truth.
Because every one stole a job from a US citizen. Every single one.
