Raise a toast to Dame Routledge.
She played the quintessential “royalist”.
Thank goodness she is on re-runs on BritBox.
And, fo course my MIL \\and\\ my wife epitomize Hyacinth.

Such a great show. Onslow was my favorite character.

I watch that show - along with As Time Goes By and Are You Being Served - on Saturday nights on PBS. I guess GOD needed some humor in Heaven ...

Ah, yes, Hyacinth Bucket. Perhaps the first “Karen” I saw on telly.

RIP. Always liked this show on either PBS or Vision TV (Canada). My favourite scene in all of KUA was seeing the stoic look on her face after she and Richard got a thing of wet mess dumped on them while they rowed down a river looking for an appropriate spot for their picnic.

Great series. She was also in To Sir With Love. My favorite characters in Appearances were “Our Rose” (the second one) and Onslow. In fact ever since first “meeting” Onslow I've tried to model my life after his.

RIP. I’ve enjoyed this show, and Britcoms, in general; the thing that sets them apart from American sitcoms is that they are generally written by one or two persons, almost never a “team.” I guess it’s also true that they are not milked for 10, 15, or more, seasons...

She was good...as was Richard. But I think my two favorite moments were when Our Rose (the second one),after having taken too many tranquilizers, went to see “that “dishy vicar” and, while stumbling all over herself said “I want to become a nun”....and in one scene Onslow’s sitting in his chair and exclaims “I'm sitting here surrounded by no beer!”

“picnic”? You mean the “water side supper with riparian entertainments.”

I used to watch that. Funny for its time, I outgrew it a long time ago though. Only so much of certain characters you can take.

That was essentially her attitude as well - she left the show because it was starting to get repetitive. Better to leave before they get tired of you.
Now she’s having “candlelit suppers” with Richard again (Clive Swift, who played Richard, died in 2019).
