Two packed Delta jets “absolutely smashed” into each other on the runway at LaGuardia Airport Wednesday night, according to authorities and terrified passengers — destroying a plane’s nose and ripping off a large part of a wing.
The saga unfolded when the wing of an aircraft carrying 32 people that was departing for Roanoke, Virginia, suddenly collided with the fuselage of an aircraft arriving from Charlotte, North Carolina, with 61 people aboard just before 10 p.m., Delta said in a statement.
“Their right wing clipped our nose and the cockpit. We have damage to our windscreen and… some of our screens in here,” one pilot could be heard saying in air traffic control audio.
A huge part of a jet’s wing was also torn off.

Isn’t airplanes like these fuel storage in the wings ?
That’s what I thought
DEI strikes again. But hey! We’ve got morons working in aviation! That’s great!
sarc/
I bet someone will blame the government shutdown.
Yes
Damn, the pilot and copilot were really lucky they weren’t decapitated!

I worked for the DoD for over 30 years and I saw dei WAY before it had a name.
The activity I was assigned to directly supported the Naval aviation warfighter.
I saw people maintaining military aircraft and associated equipment that had absolutely NO business doing so, all because they fell into a certain dei category.
Some of those idiots I wouldn’t let work on my lawn mower, much less a jet.
Having been retired for almost 5 years now, I still look back flabbergasted no aircrew loss of life ever occurred during my career.....thank GOD.

Great point, I bet it happens.
“suddenly collided with the fuselage of an aircraft arriving from Charlotte, North Carolina”. Those sudden collisions can be dangerous.
No, on the taxiway. Big difference in speed. One was stationary, the other, with the broken wing was moving at taxi speed.
A little Bondo, some paint...
He didn't have enough clearance, Clarence.
“That’ll buff right out!”
When I became and Army aviator, I had three choices of my secondary job. Instructor pilot, Safety officer, or Aviation Maintenance Officer. I became a maintenance test pilot and never regretted it. I trusted my helicopters. I always knew it was done right.
I quit flying after 9/11. Driving still seems the best way to go.
From what I can tell from the video, the aircraft on the taxiway did not hold short, he intruded on the runway and was struck by the jet on the runway. YMMD
Again, from the video, the incident was caused by the pilot, not ground control.
It was just a matter of time before the DEI controllers and DEI pilots screwed the pooch.
Schumer's fault!
