Wild boars are becoming an increasingly common sight in urban areas across Spain. Towns such as Denia, Javea, Calpe, Pego, El Verger and Els Poblets are among the most affected, with these wild animals no longer sticking to forests. Streets, beaches and even homes are now on their route, leaving locals feeling uneasy. With tourism down, the boars’ presence is even more noticeable.
This isn’t a new problem. The surge in wild boar numbers is linked to a mix of ecological, social and urban factors.

What to do if you encounter a wild boar
Keep your distance – don’t touch or corner them.
Warning signs of a possible attack: hair standing on end along the back and a cracking sound like nuts being bitten.
Never feed them.
If driving, stay calm: keep your eyes open, avoid honking, and don’t flash your lights.
Keep campsites and trails clean, as food scraps attract them.
Authorities’ role
The Police and Guardia Civil are responsible for managing the situation, usually by guiding the animals back to their natural habitats. Each municipality has its own protocols depending on the severity of the problem.
Why wild boars are booming
No natural predators: The disappearance of foxes, genets and eagles has helped them multiply.
High reproductive rate: A female can have up to eight piglets per litter.
Milder winters: Climate change means more adults and young survive.
Damage to crops: They ruin fields, orchards and irrigation systems, causing economic losses.
Urban incursions: Their lack of fear of humans brings them into gardens, terraces and streets.
Population control measures include capture cages and studies into sterilisation. Experts agree that long-term solutions require an integrated approach combining population management, public education and urban planning.

That is a big part of the problem, at least in Greece ... very limited hunting season. They are a plague.
The secret is not to let them crash at your house.
I had ground wild boar once and it was a little to gamey for me.
Carmel, CA had a pig problem around the meadow near the water treatment plant. They thought they’d fix the problem by culling half of them.
They stopped hunting them in Ohio.
I think the more you kill the more they breed.
Its why coyote population has exploded.
Brilliant.

While in your car? You can stay safe in your car by STAYING IN YOUR CAR! that boar isn’t lost so don’t get out thinking you can help it get home. Can’t believe how stupid some people are.

They may have switched to poisoning and don’t want people to eat the meat. If you kill a hog and the meat is blue, don’t eat it.

My wife and I are going to Spain next year so we don't mind what they do to the wild boars. However, DON'T TOUCH the Cerdo Iberico. That's the breed of pig from which they make the Wagyu of pork--- Jamon Iberico. The Cerdo Iberico are treated very very gently. Allowed to roam free in the forest of oak trees from which fall acorns which they feast upon. They live lives of utter bliss with fresh spring water and just the right amount of rest and exercise so as to bring their muscles to just the proper firmness while the periods of rest allows for the development of the correct fat layers that enfold the meat.
After the Cerdo Iberico live their wonderful lives, at the proper time they go on to the next stage in which they are processed over time with extreme care and artistry to produce the magical Jamon Iberico which many consider a greater taste experience than even Wagyu beef.
