Ukrainian history vs. Russian myths: Dare to Ukraine- Village Ep. 4
The Kyiv Independent ^ | Sep 20, 2025 | Masha Lavrova

Posted on 09/26/2025 3:10:49 PM PDT by UMCRevMom@aol.com

“Dare to Ukraine” is The Kyiv Independent’s wartime travel series that shows the country beyond the war headlines.

In Episode 4 of “Dare to Ukraine: Village,” Masha’s quiet rural routine is interrupted by a new mission: uncover the local history and debunk Russian propaganda myths about Ukraine. What starts as a simple day in the countryside turns into a journey through Ukraine’s past and present — proving that even the smallest villages and communities carry stories of independence that shatter Russian lies."

‘We’re not interested’

Very odd response. You chose this post. And, you made the choice to actually engage by commenting on this thread.

Please, just stop punishing yourself.
No one will think the less of you.

Everyone doesn’t have to like every forum or every article topic.

Just have a good day :)

I'm not ‘’punishing myself’’ for anything.

You were told to stop doing this, you complied for some period of time and now you're back and I'm not the only one to express this disappointing sentiment.

The owner of this website has been gracious to you and you've taken advantage of that graciousness. I've no further desire to interact with you. You're irredeemable.

Lots of myths about Russia. Russia didn’t win WW II, America did. It was B-17 bombers that crushed German might. Without the bombing of Germany and all the stuff sent to Russia via Alaska—Stalin would have lost in 1944. Our D-Day invasion did more damage to Germany than Russia’s attacks. If the bombers didn’t rip the guts out of German factories they would have made enough tanks to crush the Soviets. Japan stabbed Hitler in the back by NOT declaring war on Russia and closing her ports in the pacific for America’s flood of goods. We won with sheer numbers. Germany should have crushed Russia like Ukraine is crushing Russia today. Germany should be ashamed that Russia beat them with their commissars and illiterate peasants.

Random data is researched and presented to imply profiteering. Interestingly, some other information is sadly neglected. This information has been shared regarding other Ukrainian sources as well.

You’re preaching to the choir, FRiend.

The Russians sure love to think they won the war entirely.

“The Great Patriotic War For The MotherLand!’’.

Murdering Bolsheviks always seem to gloss over the 1939 to 1941 honeymoon with Hitler until Adolf decided he didn’t need a partner anymore.

Hi. It is interesting that the Dalrymple title is "Shattered Lands: Five Partitions and the Making of Modern Asia."

That alone surely makes the point, considering that more lands will be shattered as the decades and centuries go along.

Here's a very new YouTube of the author making a presentation to the British Library, re: Jaipur Literature Festival. The video is about an hour long.

Fascinating.

JLF 2025: Sam Dalrymple on Shattered Lands: Five Partitions and the Making of Modern Asia Sep 15, 2025

Surely "shattered lives" speaks to so much, then, now and surely tomorrow.

The Yale University Press book from 2008 looks like quite a "read." A wee sample I looked through seems that one theme is that of language groups contesting, which reminded me of another parallel theme by Toynbee, so I went looking for that as well.

Here's a 30-minute interview from 1955, with a similar theme about the greater frame of history and historical themes which we've brought up.

Stay safe. Enjoy your reading.

However, do not worry! You’re not on my current ping list.

I did notice you have been on FR since 2004. I can only guess that your log-in was retrieved with another Freeper in order to receive this PM.

This PM was in response to a request for an additional source for article on: OSCE findings on Russia’s abuse of Ukrainian POWs.

Thinking more on your reading recommendations offered yesterday, especially "Shattered Lands," I looked to a Wiki over a cup of coffee this AM.

It's so interesting the 21st century listing mentions not only name and governmental changes, but ceding lands after border disputes. France's "colonies" being freed play a part in the story, and the Kosovo breakaway from Serbia begun under Clinton's time is mentioned. I had no idea our US ceded some small islands -- tiny really -- to Mexico, and Mexico ceded others to us. Part of Tajikistan was ceded to China. South Sudan broke awat from Sudan. A short-lived attempt by " Generalitat of Catalonia" to break away from Spain figures in the list. Like the US and Mexico, Belgium and Netherlands "exchange" some tiny bits, so strange. Barbados breaks away from Great Britain. Armenia cedes some land to Azerbaijan. More....

"Shattered lands" surely seems an interesting theme, as the Dalrymple work names it.

“You are a loyal Zeeper.”

Thank you. I have and will continue to defend Ukraine against this invasion against the sovereign nation by Putin.

But, my support of Ukraine has not and never will negate my love for the U.S.A. For some, it was popular to insult me personally. The attack against my patriotism was just apart of their insulting behavior to sully my reputation. It has been said of me that English is my second language etc, etc.

Lately, their shared vendetta against me has slowed down. However, I recently, learned from another Freeper has been threatened by PM: “If you want me to make an example of you by turning my attention to you, I’ll be happy to grant your wish.”

This Freeper is an intelligent, kind person that was very intimidated that sharing with me: “I do not want to get that attention given to ‘RevMom’. “

So, know that I appreciate reading your on topic comments even if we don’t always agree. Truly, please be careful of aligning with negative Freepers which only detracts from your thoughtful comments.
