Prop 50, mask ban and Charlie Kirk: Takeaways from Newsom on 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert'

Gov. Gavin Newsom appeared as the Tuesday guest for "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert," where he discussed various topics ranging from health care, his social media strategy, the late Charlie Kirk and President Donald Trump.

The governor's appearance came shortly after ABC lifted its suspension of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" The show was abruptly suspended following comments made about Kirk, and Kimmel has since clarified in his return episode that he didn't intend to joke about the assassination.

Newsom maintained a mostly playful but at times serious conversation with Colbert, who noted that he had not spoken with Newsom since Colbert's previous persona from "The Colbert Report."

Newsom's new social media strategy

Colbert commented that Newsom has been gaining a lot of attention lately, which led the governor to smirk.

In recent months, Newsom and his press office have been directly parodying Trump's social media posting style on his Truth Social platform, imitating the all-caps typing and using phrases the president is known to frequently use.

"You've got this new communication strategy, or at least new for a Democrat, it's called — and I hope I'm pronouncing this correctly — being interesting," Colbert said.

While commenting on the social media strategy, Colbert pulled out prints of posts from Newsom, including one his account shared of his face superimposed on Mount Rushmore, and another that suggests there are worldwide calls for Newsom to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

In response to the parody posts, Newsom said the idea came from both inspiration and desperation.

"Everything we were doing to try to break through wasn't working anymore. And so we decided to do something to your point, a novel, called humor," Newsom said, also explaining that Democrats are not being as humorous as they should be.

Its ironic that NewSCUM shows such disdain for ICE but 15 yrs ago when he was Mayor of San Francisco, he ordered ice agents to arrest and deport juvenile illegal alien criminals from the state..and when a Dem tried to reverse his order, he VETOED it, so what happened..well the commie party is now the open border party so NewSCUM has to go along with it

California law does not supersede Federal rules and regulations when it comes to the tactical operations of ICE agents.

Oh, he sounds like he could be a moderate then as President if he gets free of that liberal state of California? What do you think?

That law is an act of insurrection, plain and simple.

"I wish they would just arrest his ass for obstruction."

The Feds should withhold every penny that California gets too.

He’s pimping Prop 50 as a way to stop Trump from stealing the 2028 election.

Well, first of all, Trump won’t be on the ballot. Secondly, he claims the Dems will gerrymander California to offet Texas’ GOP gains...as if the Dems haven’t already gerrymandered California to benefit the Dems.

"And he knows that but chose to pander to his base instead of admitting that his base wants to dox ICE officers."

He's the same idiot that trespassed on private property in September 2020 with Kamala Harris, for a photo-op to show the devastation of the wild fire that had destroyed a house, and he's the same moron who violated his own Covid orders to attend a birthday party unmasked, with a dozen friends on November 6, 2020, at the posh French Laundry restaurant in wine country north of San Francisco. He's a fricking hypocrite.
