On Monday, President Donald Trump presented a major announcement on the administration's plan to combat, treat, and prevent autism.

The Trump Administration's Autism Action Plan

Flanked by Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz, National Institute of Health (NIH) Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary, and acting Assistant Secretary of HHS Dr. Dorothy Fink, Trump thanked Kennedy for bringing this health crisis "to the forefront of American politics." He also thanked Bhattacharya, Oz, and Makary for their assistance in producing this new direction on public health.

Trump said:

The meteoric rise in autism is among the most alarming public health developments in history. There's never been anything like this. [...] Since 2000, autism rates have surged by much more than 400 percent. Instead of attacking those who ask questions, everyone should be grateful for those who are trying to get the answers to this complex situation.

Trump mentioned that among the Amish community, where they do not take vaccines, there are little-to-no instances of autism. Kennedy confirmed there were studies that documented this. Trump also discussed how the use of acetaminophen, aka Tylenol, during pregnancy has been associated with an increased risk of autism. Dean of the Harvard School of Public Health, Dr. Andrea Baccarelli, wrote a statement detailing the connection between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and autism/ADHD development in children.

Statement from Andrea Baccarelli, M.D., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health:

"We found evidence of an association between exposure to acetaminophen during pregnancy and increased incidence of neurodevelopmental disorders in children..."

HHS will now be recommending that pregnant women take acetaminophen only when extremely necessary, and giving it to children should be avoided entirely or limited in its administration.

Trump also spoke to the changes in the childhood vaccine schedule, which the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) debated last week.

When you go for the shot, you do it over a five-time period. Take it in smaller doses and spread it over a period of years. They pump so much into those beautiful little babies, it's a disgrace. I don't see it, I think it's bad. It looks like they're pumping it into a horse.

Trump also addressed mercury and aluminum in the vaccines, as well as the separation of MMR (mumps, measles, rubella) vaccines.

"It seems when you mix them, that's when things get really bad. Individually, they're okay," Trump said.  "There's no downside in doing this, and it may not have that much of an impact, or it may have a big impact."

Trump also discussed the Hepatitis B vaccine, alluding to the fact that Hepatitis B is spread primarily through sexual contact or intravenous drug use, so recommendations will change for the vaccine not to be administered at birth.

Trump asked HHS Secretary Kennedy to say a few words. Kennedy pointed out that this is an ALL agency effort (HHS, NIH, CMS, FDA). In the past, the work of research, studies, and guidance was siloed and even politicized to a degree where one hand did not know what the other hand was doing. Kennedy mentioned two action items that will be implemented immediately: the first is the release of the research and FDA instructions and label changes on the use of acetaminophen. HHS will also launch a public health campaign surrounding this, encouraging caution in acetaminophen use, along with new research to study the correlations and causations that connect the use of this drug to autism. The second action item is that CMS and NIH will assist doctors on how to counsel and treat patients appropriately in terms of acetaminophen use, and especially in the area of administering vaccines and preventing vaccine injury.

At the end of his remarks, Kennedy made this promise:

I want to reassure the people in the autism community that we will be uncompromising and relentless in our search for answers. We will perform the studies that should have been performed 25 years ago. Whatever the answer is, we will tell you what we find.

We expect this to be the first of MANY announcements over the coming years that deliver actionable information to parents on underlying causes of autism and the potential paths for prevention and reversal.

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Dr. Marty Makary, and Dr. Dorothy Fink spoke to their role in the Autism Plan and how their agencies will partner with HHS on research and implementation of the plans to discover the roots of this disease. Bhattacharya gave more detail on the NIH $50 million award in support of 13 research projects geared toward isolating autism, unlocking root causes, and improving autism outcomes.

The NIH press release announced:

The National Institutes of Health has launched the Autism Data Science Initiative (ADSI), a landmark research effort that will harness large-scale data resources to explore contributors to the causes and rising prevalence of autism spectrum disorder. More than $50 million in awards will support 13 pioneering projects that draw on genomic, epigenomic, metabolomic, proteomic, clinical, behavioral and autism services data. These projects will integrate, aggregate and analyze existing data resources, generate targeted new data and validate findings through independent replication hubs.

“Our Autism Data Science Initiative will unite powerful datasets in ways never before possible,” said NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya, M.D., Ph.D. “By bringing together genetics, biology, and environmental exposures, we are opening the door to breakthroughs that will deepen our understanding of autism and improve lives.”

The White House ended the announcements with the testimony of two mothers affected by children with autism.

That’s it? Tylenol? We need a lot more supporting data.

This is quite interesting. Eldest sibling already posted a big FB blurb to indicate that there is no evidence to support the POTUS announcement that use of tylenol may be related to autism rates.... Then the offspring of another sibling works in research at Harvard for pediatric studies. I will be anxious to see who puts “likes” on the anti-Trump post.

Either way, hoping that this finding/announcement by MAHA will lead to a reduction in the incidence of autism. Possibly more studies are out there, in areas with low autism rates, just waiting for the data to be compiled.

Is there really great increase in the DISORDER, or is there truly an explosion of DIAGNOSES of Autism. Social pressure, media, and parental expectations may be the underlying reason for the apparent increase.

Either your eldest sibling doesn't know what he is talking about or the good "Andrea Baccarelli, M.D., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health" doesn't.

I think I am going with your eldest sibling doesn't know what he is talking about since the Good Doctor gave evidence in the hearing.

There is an increase in the DISORDER.

See Dr. Baccarelli's statement in today's news conference about studies that prove the link.

It could be both, but the Tylenol is at least partially to blame.

When I was growing up, of course then they did not diagnose the disorder, but the behavior of the children with autism is striking enough to know it when you see it, and I do not remember any kids acting like that. I grew up in a small town and we pretty much knew many many of the families and the kids. No kids like that.

I believe there must be an increase in the disorder and it’s troubling.

A lot was left out here.

The married of acetaminophen, Tylenol included, have said for decades that over use of the drug will lead to stomach issues including reduction of the lining.

Millions of doctors, researchers and scientists agree that the GI biome of multiple breeds and strains of bacteria are critical to maintain for health.

Maybe if these doctors have even said the stomach has many similarities to our brain, with a few calling it a “second brain”. I might not take it that far but the connections I’m making in this is that autism is actually caused by damage to the GI microbiome.

Now they COULD say all of that.. which would cause an absolute panic. The American sorry is so full of garbage that kills stomach biota that there is very little left that is actually healthy.

The answer may begin with Tylenol, but it doesn’t end there.

Many people have IBS in some form. I’m one of them. A certain type of IBS (Crohn’s disease) see so much of the stomach microbiome go instinct that there is no chemical reaction that stops stomach acid from dissolving your own stomach. In other words, its meat and gets disolved all the same.

I don’t believe it’s quite a bullseye, but we’re over the target.

Tylenol was generally considered safe for pregnant women and children and was used liberally. I am unfamiliar with the studies which indicate Tylenol as a factor however. But the rise of of autism rates is stunning. Some other factors...increased diagnostic awareness, age of parents at childbirth,...who knows...maybe increased diagnosis so that behavioural therapists could have more jobs(conspiracy theory alert)...either way...at least they’re trying to do something..instead of standing there gobsmacked....

I carry tylenol everywhere I go, as NSAID’s (aspirin, advil, motrin etc) almost killed me once eating away my stomach and causing serious internal bleeding.

Autism...

Defined by any behavioral tic that has not yet been assigned to some other neurological condition.

There have been plenty of papers published on this subject, coming to various conclusions.

Safe is a relative term.

Nothing is perfectly safe.

So we depended on informed consent and trust.

We no longer have either when it comes to Big Med and Big Pharma.

If acetaminophen is involved, then it’s likely not he only agent.

Hopefully we will get around to pediatric vaccines shortly.

And to pot.

This is what the status quo people always argue. I don’t see any possibility that a population of this magnitude was simply misdiagnosed. Autistic kids are typically very obvious and many if not most have significant dysfunction of some kind.

My research shows that autism develops during the third month of pregnancy. Autism is a super masculine consciousness disorder that happens when the thalamus does not relay sensory stimulus to the amygdala.

The neural tube development during the third month of pregnancy is influenced by the mother’s emotional status.

If the mother is unable to bond with the child in her womb, it influences the child’s ability to develop the ability to process emotional consciousness.

I discovered this many years ago in a man I tested with Asperger’s Syndrome, I noticed that he had abandonment issues with his mother while he was in her womb. This puzzled me, as how can he feel abandoned when inside her?

I asked if his mother had lost any of his siblings or had miscarriages prior to his birth. He replied no, but stated that his mother’s father committed suicide when she was pregnant with him.

To my amazement, his autism symptoms diminished when we removed the negative emotions attached to the traumatic memory of his mother’s experience.

Autism spectrum people tend to turn their head to the left when they look at you. This increases stimulus to the left brain hemisphere as the input to the right side of the right eye stimulates the left side optic sensory neurons on the back of the eye. The optic nerve is split and the left side crosses the optic chasm to the left hemisphere.

I have worked with learning disabilities of Autism Spectrum children with considerable success.

I have been thinking of this also coming from a small community. We all went to the same church, one school, first grade through twelfth grade and can’t think of one kid who could be considered autistic. Additionally, there weren’t any overweight kids either.
