One last lesson from Charlie Kirk: We can ALL keep the Sabbath to save our sanity
New York Post ^ | 09/18/2025 | Bethany Mandel

The murder of Charlie Kirk has left a gaping wound in the conservative movement and in the hearts of millions of Americans who admired his courage, his clarity and his conviction.

It’s also left behind Charlie’s sixth and final book, set to be released this December — “Stop in the Name of God: Why Honoring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life.”

That title now reads less like a prescription for individual renewal and more like a legacy, a call to carry forward one of the most essential lessons he wanted to impart: the need to stop, rest and return to God’s rhythm for life.

Charlie was a Christian, but he was candid about how abiding by a traditionally Jewish Sabbath observance — namely turning off his phone, detaching from the frenetic pace of politics and dedicating 24 hours each week to faith and family — transformed his life.

At a recent Turning Point USA event, he and his wife, Erika, spoke about what this practice meant for their marriage, their sanity and their faith.

That’s why I thought it odd that they chose a Sunday to hold the memorial. Many people working this day for sure.

“ namely turning off his phone, detaching from the frenetic pace of politics and dedicating 24 hours each week to faith and family — transformed his life.”

We do this. On our religion’s proscribed sabbath.

When we were little everyone did this. Living on long island in a large Jewish population, Jewish owned delis and ‘stationary stores’ were open

When we were in Germany for a few years, we got back into this. The Germans shut down Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. Maybe it’s a holdover from when the country followed religious teachings, but they kept it it makes sense.

I am still surprised to see parking lots full grocery store lots fuller than ever on Sunday. It defies natural law I think

And it is easy to do. Even for a single parent working full time plus.

We need a day off every week. God commanded it. It is in the top three commandments. It is a sin to defy it

It is the only day when kids are not in classes. This is for them most of all. Plus, it will probably be like a church service.

I don’t think the article specifies Saturday or Sunday, if you want to bring up that old argument whatever

The point is take a day of every week as God commanded Charlie said it. It’s amazing how one cannot mention this in polite company or on media

It’s prohibited.

No need to argue: the sabbath was institued for man, not God. Pick your day and honor Him, learn more about Him, and rest with yoyr loved ones and love your neighbor.

Priests work Sundays...3 masses...

Ugh,
In the scriptures I read, the Beginning isn’t detailed as a Pope’s sun day.

There’s actually creation that occurs before the first Day Vespa.

That wasn’t a Sun Day in scripture.

The Sun makes its appearance on His 4th Day in the scriptures.

Rome says otherwise, but hey stick with those Daniel warned about

Ugh again.

I will go to church on the day that MOST CHRISTIANS for 2000 years go to church. SUNDAY. After all, that is where MOST CHRISTIANS are that day.

Yes - the Lord Jesus Christ addressed this specifically (Mark 2:27)

BUT

Remember and Honor the Lord God EVERY SINGLE DAY of the week

Our church is 23 miles away. Originally, synagogues and churches were “in the neighborhood”, and everyone walked to services. So right there, we can’t observe the “ no work” rule, unless we attend the church at the end of the next block. But they don’t teach the doctrine in which we believe. I mean, it’s close, but no cigar. If for some reason we could no longer drive, however, we would attend there anyway. Also, if we were observant, I’d have to prepare food the day before. Not a biggie. I couldn’t go shopping, but I’d survive. We basically don’t do anything after church on Sunday, just hang out. It’s doable.

I think Charlie’s Bible based message was not so much about an hour at church than off to the races. He was talking about what the Bible describes. A holy day of rest. A 24 hour period where we come apart from the world and set aside this 24 hour period for holy use. In Genesis we read God blessed the 7th day and “sanctified” it.

Charlie has a book coming out about how observing this literal 24 hour period and honoring the Sabbath saved his life.

There is a difference betwee an hour at church......and a 24 hour holy time reserved for God. Thank you.

While I respect your opinion, my authority is scripture. And in scripture we read throughout, that God sanctified the 7th day. He never said remember “A” sabbath........he said Remember “THE” Sabbath. And he calls it MY HOLY DAY.

Again, I respect your opinion. However, it is God who declares what day of the week is HOLY. We cannot.

Thank you

Fits.

When we were home with kids we kept a quiet recreational Sunday.

It was nice after church. Games and play.

Well, looks to me like God worked on the first recorded day of the week to me. The 7 day weekly cycle he established at creation. And it’s been the same “Sunday” since.

Genesis 1:1 and 2.

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness [a]was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. [b]So the evening and the morning were the first day.

I grew up in New England with the puritanical laws, and a majority of mom and pop shops, (there were no big box stores),closing early to 3pm, on Friday., and never on Sunday.

Being exposed to blue laws as a child, and then as part of a messianic church on Long Island, I have found it comfortable to keep Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon, excepting the hours required for my renal treatment, all the way to “that day”.

We used to live inTexas during mid eighties and I think it was still called the blue laws where stores and businesses were closed on Sunday. We would go to church, come home, my husband would do a long run and while he was out, I would bake cookies and then called Pizza Hut for Priazza Pizza with the slices of tomatoes baked into the center! Then we would watch football. We were young marrieds and that day set apart for God and family helped solidify our married life! Highly recommend Sunday as Charlie’s book will do- I might need to buy a bunch of copies for Christmas presents!

Heard today that he has Jewish ancestry, which may explain the “off-label” sabbath practice.

Christians keep holy the Lord’s day (Sunday). The day of the resurrection.

Talking about Sabbaths. Did you realize Rosh Hashanah starts Sunday, September 21 at sundown in Israel?
