The Steve Wilos show, by the way. 0:05 · It's uh NBC and you can check your local 0:07 · affiliates for that. All right, Dawson, 0:10 · what's going on out there? 0:11 · Well, Jimmy Kimmel ignited a firestorm 0:14 · over his comments about the alleged 0:16 · Charlie Kirk assassin. So, Disney is 0:18 · pulling ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live 0:20 · indefinitely. Next, our media, which 0:23 · owns hundreds of television stations, 0:25 · announced it would preempt Kimmel's show 0:28 · uh on all of its affiliates for the 0:30 · foreseeable future. They say Kimmel's 0:32 · comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are 0:34 · offensive and insensitive at a critical 0:36 · time in our national political 0:39 · discourse. We do not believe they 0:41 · reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, 0:43 · or values of the local communities in 0:45 · which we are located. So, when all this 0:48 · was breaking, I was uh on the road in 0:52 · traffic doing a thing kind of half out 0:55 · of town and I was listening to talk 0:57 · radio. So, I love talk radio, but talk 1:01 · radio tells you what's going on when 1:03 · it's when it's happening. And uh Mike 1:05 · August, who's Booker and friend, and I 1:09 · was meeting him at the event. He's a 1:12 · sports radio guy. I don't get the sports 1:15 · radio guys, but okay. H but he didn't so 1:19 · but he's very you know he worked for 1:20 · Kimmel's show for 15 years he was very 1:25 · finger on the pulse of what's going on 1:28 · this guy that guy Jimmy he knows what's 1:31 · going on at the Kimmel show and he was 1:33 · there for a a long time he also knows 1:36 · what's going on in late night show 1:38 · business you know because James baby 1:40 · doll Dixon my agent was co is coar's 1:43 · agent it was 1:45 · Mike's former partner ner and uh and 1:48 · Jimmy's agent also was crazy 1:52 · James baby doll Dixon represent you know 1:55 · seven weeks ago we had two guys that 1:57 · were like the king of late night and now 2:00 · both gone both on you know over a decade 2:02 · so and so forth so anyway 2:06 · I'm hearing about this on the radio and 2:09 · so I call Mike calls and and he goes how 2:13 · far away are you from the from the gig 2:14 · you know I go I got another hour in 2:16 · traffic. And then he brings up Kimmel 2:19 · for some reason. He's something like, 2:21 · "Oh, man. What's this Kimmel thing?" He 2:23 · says something sort of innocuous. And I 2:25 · go, "Oh yeah, man. It's crazy, right?" 2:28 · He goes, "What?" And I go, "Yeah." And 2:29 · so then I tell him, I think he knows 2:32 · that Kimmel's been pulled off. He does 2:35 · not know. So then I go, "Uh, I said, you 2:38 · know, you know what would be funny? 2:41 · Every time I talk to O'Reilly, 2:43 · O'Reilly, Bill O'Reilly always says to 2:45 · me, Connecticut guy, right? Yeah. 2:47 · Bill, I talked to Bill O'Reilly 2:50 · last week. 2:50 · Last week, he goes, he goes, "Uh, hey, 2:54 · tell your buddy Kimmel to put me on the 2:56 · show. Tell your buddy Kimmel. Roll in 2:58 · every time." He tell your buddy I'd be 3:00 · great on the show. Tell your buddy that. 3:02 · And Kimmel was slated to go to New York, 3:05 · go to Brooklyn, you know. So, he goes, 3:08 · "He's going to be in here, you know. 3:09 · tell your buddy, you know, whatever. So, 3:13 · just because I think it's funny and I 3:16 · know Jimmy shows been pulled, I tell 3:19 · Mike, hit up O'Reilly and tell him, 3:21 · "Good news, I got him booked. 3:26 · He's coming to New York. Coar's his 3:29 · lead, but he's going to bump Cobar and I 3:31 · got you in there instead." And Jimmy 3:33 · goes, "Uh, sorry." Mike goes, "You want 3:37 · me to do what with O'Reilly?" I go, 3:39 · "Just hit up O'Rey's people. Tell him 3:40 · good news. I got him booked on Kimmel 3:42 · show." He goes, "You got him booked on 3:45 · Kimmel show." I go, "Yeah, yeah, tell 3:47 · him that. Tell him that. It's funny." 3:50 · Well, 3:51 · I don't get it. Why did you book him on 3:53 · Kimmel show? I thought he Kim Kimmel 3:55 · said, "Okay." So, this goes on for 10 3:57 · minutes. I go, "Mike, it's a joke. It's 3:59 · a joke. It's funny, right?" He goes, 4:01 · "Why is it funny?" And I go, "Cuz 4:04 · it's a funny joke." because because I 4:08 · O'Reilly's always hit me up and now be 4:10 · funny if you told him I I got him 4:11 · booked, right? And he goes, I don't got 4:13 · I don't get what's funny about that. And 4:16 · I go, it's funny cuz Jimmy show got 4:18 · cancelled. He goes, what? 4:21 · I go, 4:23 · yes, Jimmy show got cancelled. He goes, 4:25 · what are you talking about? I go, what 4:26 · the Mike? Don't you have a radio? 4:28 · You got a phone? I've been on the road 4:30 · for an hour. I I've been on the road for 4:32 · an hour. I he goes I I go just don't say 4:37 · how far are you from the gig goes 5 4:38 · minutes. I go just go there park your 4:41 · car get your phone out and call me back. 4:44 · And then he calls me back and he's like 4:47 · holy Holy And I'm like now 4:51 · you can see how funny that O'Reilly joke 4:53 · is, right? He's like well yeah now I get 4:55 · it. So I said I said we'll hit O'Reilly 4:58 · anyway because this is going to be funny 5:00 · because I just want to do this. And um 5:03 · then you know Mike's talking you know 5:06 · when affiliates he was saying 5:10 · I think it was Conan had one affiliate 5:13 · in Boston drop him and that's when the 5:17 · the domino effect started happening with 5:19 · Conan. But 5:21 · you know, he knows the nuts and the 5:23 · bolts of TV and late night and 5:25 · affiliates and once X amount affiliates, 5:27 · it's once the affiliates drop you or a 5:30 · group drops you, then then then you get 5:32 · dropped. now. Um, so then 5:37 · I I'm very weird about sending texts to 5:42 · people that are in the middle of stuff 5:44 · because I feel like they're being 5:45 · flooded with text and then it then it 5:48 · feels like a burden to them because they 5:51 · feel compelled to answer your text and a 5:53 · pile of texts that they're getting. 5:55 · Well, I would imagine you were on the 5:57 · receiving end of that. 5:59 · I was yesterday. I well I was I I got 6:02 · onto a group thing with all the guys who 6:05 · worked there and stuff like that. The 6:07 · the usual suspects, the guys I watch 6:08 · football with and stuff, but I also had 6:12 · a gig. So I basically 6:14 · shut it off and 6:15 · just have to go perform and be on stage 6:18 · and do whatever I'm doing. I can't sit 6:20 · around, get a private room and look at 6:22 · my phone. It happened right when I got 6:24 · there. Uh, but there was a break and uh 6:29 · I, you know, I said to Jimmy, I just 6:32 · sent him a text because, you know, you 6:34 · want to be on record is like 6:36 · understanding or knowing or whatever. So 6:38 · then I just send him a text that just 6:41 · said, you know, thinking about you. Hope 6:43 · you're okay. And then I always write I 6:46 · don't know maybe this is a reverse 6:48 · psychology thing but I always write 6:50 · you don't need to reply because I just 6:52 · want it's like it's like you know your 6:54 · dad died you know hey Steve sorry handle 6:57 · your business I'm just I understand you 6:58 · know I don't want you 7:00 · writing me back and telling me thank you 7:02 · for it's a tough time for all of us you 7:05 · know I just 7:06 · I'm thinking about you 7:07 · no need with that sometimes no need to 7:09 · reply just making sure you're cool 7:11 · right he wrote back 18 seconds later, 7:14 · which is how Jimmy does. He just writes 7:17 · back, you know, and maybe he's passive 7:20 · aggressive. Maybe it's my no need to 7:22 · reply makes him reply faster. But he 7:25 · just replied and he's like, "Wow, 7:27 · strange times." Uh out here, whatever. 7:30 · And then I wrote uh 7:33 · I wrote I told my booked O'Reilly on the 7:36 · show. I said, "Look, as long as you're 7:38 · replying, I'm going to just tell you I 7:40 · booked O'Reilly, but I make a joke." And 7:42 · then he just wrote back, "I'm being 7:45 · followed by a helicopter." And I was 7:47 · like, "Oh, wow. These are strange times, 7:51 · you know." 7:52 · Wow. 7:52 · So, um, you know, I just said, you know, 7:56 · stay safe, you know, good. You know, I I 7:58 · think I I think a lot of people want me 8:01 · to comment on it. My my feeling is is 8:04 · this. I don't I don't think he should 8:07 · have been fired. It's a weird thing. He 8:10 · the right and the left are always sort 8:11 · of misinterpreting things. 8:14 · He was inaccurate about something. It 8:17 · wasn't like he was necessarily attacking 8:21 · Charlie Kirk. He was trying to dump it 8:24 · on Trump and it and inaccurate about it. 8:27 · Because that's what we're living in a 8:30 · time where something happens. Nancy 8:32 · Pelosy's husband gets hit with a hammer. 8:34 · This side says he's had a MAGA hat on. 8:36 · that side says he's some kind of nudest 8:38 · hip hippie from Hate Ashberry. You know 8:42 · that that that's all that's all we do 8:44 · now. I don't feel like it's necessary, 8:46 · but that's that's all we do. But, you 8:50 · know, also 8:53 · and I don't like the government getting 8:55 · involved. And I've heard every every 8:58 · side of the story. And in general, I 9:01 · just want people to speak and then the 9:03 · ratings will do the talking and you can 9:05 · support them or not support them. And if 9:07 · that's what you want to watch, you can 9:09 · watch it or you can watch Gutfeld and 9:12 · listen to him bash Kimmel, you know, or 9:15 · however you want to do it. that's the 9:17 · world I'd like to live in. But it's not 9:20 · the world we're living in. And I 9:22 · understand people's arguments. 9:25 · And my thing is just I my perspective is 9:28 · different just cuz I know Jimmy. And I 9:31 · know Jimmy to be a very good guy and a 9:34 · and a generous guy. And I've always I've 9:36 · always said that about him. and and and 9:39 · I realized that while everyone else 9:44 · knows Jimmy as a caricature, I know him 9:48 · as a person, you know, so when when 9:51 · people, you know, when I run into the 9:52 · people that don't know Jimmy as a 9:55 · person, you know, all O'Reilly or Dave 9:58 · Rubin or Dennis Prager and they go, 10:01 · "What's up with your buddy Jimmy?" Well, 10:03 · I know him, so that's why I don't think 10:05 · of him like you think of him. But on the 10:07 · other hand, 10:09 · they think of you as a cartoon 10:10 · character, too. And I know you, you 10:13 · know, I know Dennis Prager is a very 10:15 · sweet man, lovely, lovely man. But these 10:18 · guys on the other side think of you as a 10:21 · cartoon 10:22 · character. And then at a certain point, 10:25 · there's the assassin who thinks of 10:27 · Charlie Kirk as a cartoon character, not 10:31 · a dude. I know him as a guy. sweet guy, 10:34 · fair guy, family guy, good American, but 10:37 · that guy looks at him as a cartoon 10:39 · character and that's why he gets to kill 10:41 · him. You see? And so I know Jimmy is a 10:45 · human and I know how good he is and I 10:48 · know how decent he is. And we disagree 10:50 · politically, but who cares? He we 10:53 · disagree 10:56 · we disagree on on pizza top things as 10:59 · well but it doesn't mean we don't talk 11:01 · you know and that's I don't get right 11:04 · because 11:05 · I lean conservative Jerry was super 11:07 · liberal guy and we would have 11:09 · discussions all the time but we loved 11:11 · each other I mean I loved the man he 11:14 · loved me I mean I saw him a month you 11:16 · know and we'd talk about not burning 11:18 · somebody you know Jerry came to see me I 11:20 · knew he knew this was the last time he 11:22 · was ever going to see me. He didn't burn 11:24 · me with, "Hey, Steve, I'm dying, 11:26 · right?" 11:26 · Like, he wanted to see me one more time, 11:28 · but he was not going to burn. And, you 11:30 · know, that's just the way he was. But my 11:32 · point is like, we all these years we, 11:34 · you know, we spent 30 years together, 11:37 · and we had opposing views. But I loved 11:39 · him, he loved me, we loved getting 11:41 · together, being together. 11:43 · Now, it seems like if you have opposing 11:45 · views, people are cutting you out like, 11:47 · "I don't want you in my life anymore. 11:49 · you don't think like me. Which to me is 11:51 · like craziness, right? People are 11:53 · cutting their own mothers off, their 11:55 · parents off because you don't, you know, 11:57 · you see these kids on TikTok. I won't 11:59 · have anything to do with my parents 12:00 · anymore because, you know, they think 12:02 · opposite of me. 12:03 · It seems it's it's a it's a larger 12:05 · operation. 12:08 · Family is dividing everyone against each 12:09 · other. 12:10 · Strange times, man. I mean, you're 12:12 · cutting people that you love out of your 12:14 · life because they don't think like you. 12:16 · It's crazy. I I don't first off I don't 12:19 · get what's in it for you. You know what 12:21 · I mean? Like I would like to enjoy 12:22 · Thanksgiving. You know what I mean? And 12:24 · we we can watch a football game and eat 12:27 · some turkey and drink a little bit. We 12:28 · don't need to talk about any of this 12:30 · stuff. 12:31 · Um I think for me it's always been a 12:35 · thing where it's always he said she said 12:37 · but I think there is a a division to be 12:40 · made or delineation to be made which is 12:44 · there are people that are on the the 12:46 · left and the right and and the the the 12:48 · the left people nobody thinks John 12:52 · Stewart is is an evil guy. They think of 12:56 · him as I disagree with this guy 12:58 · politically. They even will say he's 13:00 · talented, he's smart, he's bright, you 13:03 · know, uh I'm sure he's a good dad, sure 13:06 · he's a good husband, he's a good dude. 13:08 · Uh I disagree with him. I I I I disagree 13:11 · with whatever his policies are. Okay, 13:13 · that's fine. But, you know, when you 13:15 · start getting into this guy's evil, 13:19 · well, then we're going to a different 13:22 · place because the disagreement, whether 13:24 · it's at Thanksgiving with your niece and 13:27 · your nephew, if you if you you know, 13:31 · you're a Steelers guy and they're 13:32 · they're Ravens fans, that's that's fine. 13:35 · That's how the world comes down. We come 13:37 · down. Everyone's a fan of something. 13:39 · You're a Chevy guy. I'm a Ford guy. you 13:41 · know, whatever we do. But if you're a 13:44 · Chevy guy and I'm an evil guy and you're 13:46 · a Pittsburgh guy and I'm an evil guy and 13:49 · you like anchovies on your pizza and I'm 13:52 · an evil guy, well, at some point I can't 13:55 · come to Thanksgiving and at an an 13:58 · extreme point I'm going to need to be 13:59 · put down, right? 14:00 · And that's that's the problem. And I 14:02 · think that's the division that we're 14:05 · talking about, which is the the right 14:08 · and the left go, "Oh, there's you guys 14:10 · sling just as much mud as as we do." 14:13 · Right? But we're calling people stupid 14:16 · or low IQ or slow or sleepy or whatever 14:20 · he's doing. You're going with the evil 14:21 · part. 14:22 · And that's when the bullets start 14:24 · flying. 14:25 · Yeah. I think they've also 14:26 · underestimated just how 14:30 · just how much this country has, I guess, 14:33 · come together behind Charlie Kirk and 14:35 · how this is incredibly wrong. Would you 14:38 · like to see what Kimmel said? 14:40 · Yeah, I've seen it. I've seen it, but we 14:42 · can uh 14:43 · we'll leave the long cut in there cuz 14:45 · we can play it. 14:47 · It's it's him going after Trump 14:50 · with just going after Trump. It's it's 14:53 · it's after everyone who voted for Trump. 14:55 · Oh, I guess that's where the MAGA 14:57 · problem is. Yeah. 15:02 · We hit some new lows over the weekend 15:04 · with the MAGA gang desperately trying to 15:06 · characterize this kid who murdered 15:08 · Charlie Kirk as anything other than one 15:10 · of them and doing everything they can to 15:12 · score political points from it. In 15:14 · between the fingerpointing, there was uh 15:16 · grieving. On Friday, the White House 15:18 · flew the flags at half staff, which got 15:20 · some criticism, but on a human level, 15:23 · you can see how hard the president is 15:25 · taking this. 15:26 · My condolences on the loss of your 15:27 · friend Charlie, may I ask, sir, 15:29 · personally, how are you holding up over 15:31 · the last day and a half, sir? 15:33 · I think very good. And by the way, right 15:34 · there you see all the trucks. They've 15:37 · just started construction of the new 15:38 · ballroom for the White House, which is 15:41 · something they've been trying to get, as 15:42 · you know, for about 150 years. And it's 15:45 · going to be a beauty. Yes, 15:48 · he's at the fourth stage of grief 15:50 · construction. 15:53 · Now, see, there's nothing wrong with 15:54 · that. That part was 15:55 · in my mind. 15:56 · Yes. 15:57 · The other part inaccurate, but like I 15:59 · said, you I can't turn on Jimmy because 16:02 · he made my career and I know him as a 16:04 · person. I I just was talking to him 16:07 · before this just sort of he was at the 16:10 · Emmys. 16:12 · I just said, "What's going on?" So, I'm 16:14 · at the Emmys. I got to sit here for 4 16:15 · hours and not win anything. And it was 16:17 · just a human funny conversation. Uh 16:20 · Renie Harland, the the famous film 16:23 · director is uh is out there. Got here a 16:26 · little early, so I'm going to wrap it up 16:28 · just a beat early and get uh Renie out 16:31 · here. Steve, the show on NBC. No danger 16:35 · of being pulled by the affiliates. 16:37 · No, because when they tell me something, 16:40 · I listen. 16:41 · You can go. Should we go? You can check 16:43 · your local affiliates, right? 16:44 · We're all over. Go to steveil coco.com 16:46 · and they'll tell you where it's there.
And, this is an example of why I usually avoid talk radio and/or podcasts, other than as excerpts.
Unfunny Kimmel didn’t get fired because he made fun of Trump’s “grieving process”.
He got fired for spouting lies that were known at the time to be lies by saying MAGA was bending over backwards to say the murderer was NOT one of them, when the facts about his anti-Trump and anti-Kirk sentiments were already known, and his verified homosexual relationship with a guy who wanted to be a female was public record.
He should have kept his mouth shut, but he simply isn’t capable of it given his history.
Yes, he’s nothing but a partisan liar and bigot.
Legalize comedy. Free Speech is Good.
I expected more out of Adam because in this video it sounded like he was excusing Jimmy for his antics.
The FCC chimed in, but my understanding is that he was fired when the two biggest groups of affiliates informed ABC they would preempt his show and run something else. And that was as a result of angry advertisers.
ABC told him he needed to smooth it out and basically apologize. He said he was gonna double down...
He fired himself. Looks like the FCC role was very small to non-existent. It woulda happened without the FCC at all.
Kimmil also got fired because of the affiliates, his ratings, and his unwillingness to take it back and apologize.
He thought he was in charge, and could order Disney about.
Absolutely. I see it as a business decision, it gave them an excuse to cut their losses. He would have been gone in May anyway.
I don’t give Disney or the affiliates any credit other than making a good business decision.
I expected more out of Adam because in this video it sounded like he was excusing Jimmy for his antics.
The other part inaccurate, but like I
15:59 · said, you I can’t turn on Jimmy because
16:02 · he made my career and I know him as a
16:04 · person.
Jimmy “made his career”.
My feelings are this on what he said. If you substituted "Maga Gang" with lets say "Ben Shapiro" would there be a case of slander or of libel if it was printed? As a group you can't really sue someone unless there is a formal legal association using that name, but had he directed it towards and individual would there be a legal cause for suing him? If so, then he is going too far and needed to be slapped down for it.
His ratings were in the toilet, all these people who claim to love Kimmel didnt even bother watching his show, otherwise he would have had better ratings. I frankly could care less if Kimmel is on the air or not, I dont watch him he’s a scumbag, dirtbag, sack of poo but if people want to watch him that’s their right and its my right to not watch him..but he should have been fired years ago when he told the unvaccinated for covid to die and for praising Luigi Magione, a stone cold assassin, he should have been fired for those two things alone..but I think that the affiliates once they told ABC that they would NOT air his show they knew they had to let him go
I think that’s the truth of the matter. He’s responsible for his own firing.
FAedFO.
Adam really dropped the ball on this one. He is unable to see the truth when it comes to his “buddy”.
The truth is no consequence. Facts be damned. It’s all about the narrative that big bad authoritarian Trump trampled on the free speech right of a comedian because, well, that’s what Nazi dictators do before breakfast, right? As far as I’m concerned, this is purely performative to try to distract away from the fact that Charlie Kirk’s assassination has made the left look bad... on account of so much celebrating by its partisans.
Just meant as a friend tip.
Gee, that’s too bad. And when there is no transcript there are complaints about. Watch or listen the to video, or don’t, read the transcript or don’t. That’s up to you.
Summary...I scanned it...saw no denouncement of Kimmel...but maybe I missed it.
