Police have charged a driver accused of fatally hitting seven geese over the summer.
The driver has been charged with seven counts of animal cruelty in addition to violations of the New Jersey Fish and Wildlife regulations, the Spotswood Police Department said in a Friday statement. The driver will also face multiple motor vehicle violations.
Police did not publicize the person’s identity.
A driver hit the birds at 6:45 p.m. on July 14 on Devoe Avenue near Devoe Lake. When officers arrived, the driver had already left the area, authorities said. Investigators worked for nearly two months to identify a suspect.
Geese are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and any intentional harm caused to them may be a violation of both state and federal regulations.
A man convicted of running over five geese in a parking lot in Toms River in 2021 faced up to 90 days in jail, but was instead sentenced to two years of probation.

We have gotten to a place where people watch animal shows all day and think they are as important or more important than humans.
We dont kill predators. . A bees hive can stop construction. Alligators wander in suburbs. We relocate pests Instead of killing them.
We have become insane.
I they survived three hours of bumper to bumper traffic.
Solving the important crimes.
If it were up to me I would shoot every damned goose that stops at my pond. Gross dirty loud stinky animals.

I had classmate in high school that loved to fish and hunt.
Maybe he poached out of season and maybe he didn’t.
But I know he’d go out of his way to run over a pheasant of which were in abundance and often on the rural roads of cornbelt area that I lived.
In his view fresh roadkill was just as good of eating as if he’d shot them in season.

We had same problem here, Canadian Geese.
Only we had old ladies buying loaves of bread and feeding them by the hundreds.
It got so bad that the City Council made an ordinance that it was illegal to feed animals of any kind in the park...............
