Tyler Robinson, the suspected gunman in Charlie Kirk’s assassination, may face a firing squad as a result of charges that prosecutors plan to unveil on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old alleged assassin has so far refused to cooperate with investigators, who, regardless, believe they have enough evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he murdered Kirk, 31, during a political event on a Utah college campus last week.
Sources close to the investigation said that Kirk is expected to be charged with one count of capital murder, a charge that carries the death penalty in the state of Utah. Prosecutors are expected to seek the death penalty.
Charges against Robinson are set to be announced at 2 p.m. local time, with his first virtual court appearance occurring at 5 p.m.
Prosecutors will argue that Robinson was motivated by a “leftist ideology” that inspired hatred for Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA and a nationally recognized conservative activist who made a name for himself debating students on college campuses. Investigators believe he became “radicalized” online, where he discussed his growing disgust with conservatives in online message boards with gamers and transgender activists.
Robinson’s roommate, who is transgender, was in a romantic relationship with him and has reportedly turned over incriminating messages that Robinson left in a Discord chat where he confessed to shooting Kirk with a hunting rifle last Wednesday.
Roughly two hours before surrendering to authorities, Robinson allegedly wrote, “Hey guys, I have bad news for you all. It was me at UVU yesterday. im sorry for all of this. im surrendering through a sheriff friend in a few moments. thanks for all the good times and laughs.”
The message appears to be a straightforward admission of guilt, delivered in his own words, and if authenticated, would amount to a bombshell piece of evidence in the ongoing case.
Robinson was arrested last week after a 33-hour manhunt. After allegedly shooting Kirk, he confessed to his father, who called the family’s pastor, who then called a member of law enforcement to take Robinson into custody.
FBI Director Kash Patel stated on Fox News on Monday that more than 20 individuals may have participated in the group chat where the admission was made. The Bureau is also investigating since-deleted social media posts from a small cohort of transgender activists who referenced the shooting up to a month before it occurred.
Utah is one of 27 states that still implements the death penalty, and is just one of five that allows for the firing squad if lethal injection is unavailable.
The last Utah inmate to die by firing squad was murderer Ronnie Lee Gardner in June 2010, according to the NY Post.
Revenge is left to GOD!
Have a feeling he’ll die of old age on death row.
I understand but let’s be real that won’t happen. The real revenge or justice will be the unintended consequences of this assassination. So far a bunch of lefties have lost their positions or jobs and I bet they didn’t see that coming. A stronger bolder right and revival of faith are also things the assassin wasn’t foreseeing would happen. Who knows what’s down the road....interesting times.
One of his groups of about 30 social media friends will make a good list of possible witnesses to testify against him. The biggest problem that each of them faces is that, depending on what they knew before the suspect was in custody, they could face prosecution themselves. It’ll be up to the prosecutors to analyze the evidences gathered to decide what to do about each of them. In all cases it’s most likely they’d sing like canaries as they surely don’t want to face bad consequences themselves. The suspect, alleged shooter, doesn’t seem to have anyone sticking up for him, except his grandma who may be in denial that anything was wrong with her grandson, though she probably didn’t have a clue that he was capable of this & had no info at all of any use on this & she may yet remain in denial for the rest of her days.
Don’t even bother giving this soulless abomination a last meal.
Quite.
Very.
Nice report, but yet, a clickbait Title wouldn’t you say...???
Firing Squad...........justice....
Wouldn’t it be ironic if one of the shots from the firing squad finds his neck.
Basically that’s what the IDF does to urban terrorists. And then there were those pagers.
Read somewhere, maybe here on FR, that this murdering POS received $50K in his checking account just before this shooting. IF true, where’d it come from, who sent it....follow that money trail.
IF true, it might be quite a surprise to see where it came from and who’s behind it...
$50K with no income tax paid on it might quite the find.
You beat me to it. Proof readers? Editors?
He won’t be enjoying that $50K. It will likely be taken and confiscated by the state no?
Prayers for his family. Prayers for his soul, let him have an encounter with the Holy Spirit and repent.
He’s not talking because he’d be crazy to do that if one of his options is confessing to avoid capital punishment. Bryan Kohberger managed to avoid capital punishment that way in the case of the Idaho student murders. Talking the prosecution into that deal at this point would be a miracle of persuasion but it’s what he’s left with given the weight of the evidence already presented.
There are plenty of California and Seattle Democrats in Utah, particularly in Salt Lake City. Depends on where he is charged and where trial venue is located.
A public execution would send a powerful message to the copycats ... and make no mistake ... there are thousands out there!
All this posturing is a big Kabuki dance by Utah and Gov Cocks. They’re terrified to uncover who else (and whose money) is involved. So they won’t as they talk a good game
