Jaguar Land Rover’s suppliers have been warned that car production may not resume until November as the fallout from a devastating cyber attack grows.
The company’s factory lines have already been paralysed for two weeks after hackers compromised its computer systems, a situation that has forced bosses to temporarily send thousands of plant workers home.
But with the crisis now in its third week, senior insiders are understood to have told suppliers that production could be knocked out for another seven.
One person briefed on the situation said senior JLR figures were divided on how long the shutdown would drag on – but claimed they were told that a November restart was credible.
The source added: “They’re thinking it’s November before they get to production again. That’s not a definitive date, that’s a kind of guidance date which they think is sensible.
“Because even if they fixed the problem today, you can’t just switch it on and start. It’ll take three to four weeks to ramp things up and get even close to normalisation.”
On Monday, a JLR spokesman said this was not the company’s position and denied that it had officially told suppliers production would resume in November.
The car giant – which makes Range Rover, Discovery, Defender and Jaguar vehicles – has said it is “working around the clock” to resolve the crisis and “restart our global applications in a safe and controlled manner”.
A shutdown until November would prevent JLR from producing almost 50,000cars and cost billions of pounds in lost sales.
It would also put the carmaker’s suppliers under significant financial pressure, with some likely to go bust without outside support.
Industry insiders warned that the chaos risked making it harder to restart production and could spread to rival luxury marques that share suppliers with JLR.

All I need is a body with seats, a frame, engine, tires, and axles. Any other part needed is strictly minimal hardware.
No fancy electronics and I am good to go. I generally leave my flip phone at home because they do not need to know where I am going.
I had a series 3 Land Rover back in the early ‘70s. Loved it for roaming around the woods. Maintenance wise it was horrible. When I drove out of the dealership, the salesman said “see you in a few days when the speedometer cable breaks.” Sure enough after a few days it broke. Cause was a kink during assembly. Couldn’t fix it until it broke. The exhaust manifold cracked every 18,000 miles like clockwork. The door lock tumblers would come out with the key. Smoke came out of the dash panel because of loose connectors letting go and causing shorts. What an adventure. Never would consider another Brit vehicle.
One way to cover for the fact that the Jaguar ad campaign was historically bad.
“Let’s shut our factories down for six months and say that’s the reason that we aren’t selling any cars.”
Their buyer will have to wait.
Jaguar has the most obnoxious, WOKE television commercials, along with Direct TV, and two homosexuals, in fur coats, promoting their product.
Have also has a Range Rover, Discovery and 2 Series 2As.
Presently, 2 Unimogs, Excursion, etc.
The Land Rovers break a lot, but are easily repaired, unlike the modern junk.
The Unimogs go years, even decades between breaking, but when they do, you are in for some work.
Still, they are repairable and will go forever if you keep them out of the salt.
The door locks on my Lightweight will never fail, there are none.
The windows always work, as you just lift the off the door and store them.
If the doors bug you, you lift them off too.
With the canvas top off, fold the windshield down.
“Smoke came out of the dash panel because of loose connectors letting go and causing shorts. “
Joe Lucas says:
“Don’t go out at night”
You would think that Jaguar Land Rover would have back up software to reprogram their production computers.
This will save hapless Americans hundreds of mlllions in car “repairs” abd rental fees.
Go woke go broke.
Do stupid commercials - get bad results...
