Chagas disease, a potentially deadly condition caused by an infected triatomine insect or "kissing bug," may be becoming endemic in the United States, according to a new report published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. U.S.

"Autochthonous (or, locally acquired) human cases have been reported in 8 states, most notably in Texas. Labeling the United States as non-Chagas disease-endemic perpetuates low awareness and underreporting," the report noted, adding the insect has been reported in 32 states.

Other states with human cases include California, Arizona, Tennessee, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi and Arkansas.

I have 2 dogs with Chagas and I’ve seen (and killed) many kissing bugs. The beetles aren’t new to me but I’d never heard of Chagas until a couple of years ago. I’m just north of San Antonio...

there are bugs that look almost exactly like the one that carries Chagas- but they aren’t the same- not sure the NE had the deadly bugs- i think they are warmer climate only- at least so far- the disease has been around a long time- remember hearing about it a long time ago

Send them ALL home.

Unfortunately, Trump isn’t beginning to do that.

So are the vectors that bring turd world diseases in to the country. Almost as dangerous as the politicians who invited them in.

Yes, they are nearly alike;
but I want to my wife avoid anything even near like them.
Thanks for the info in the article: I rely on my wife to stay us healthy, and feed us.
I do know that, living so close to the Atlantic, shore...and the usual wind...
I would, rather,she to avoid anything resemble the pest.

Thank all for the heads up.

The politicians who invited them in are vectors of third world diseases.

Thans for heads up. Know more about this than I desired - stationed in Panama, biomed/cardiovascular physiologist PhD program, later a senior scientist/fellow at world’s largest pacemaker company.

Kerr County here. We’ve had people here for years die of heart problems from chagas. The thing is, that it’s not something the doctors or coroners checked for. And the anal sacs on raccoons is a disease vector. I shoot raccoons, but I know people here who think they are cute, and feed them.
My one friend had them coming in her house through the pet door and treated them like guests.
