At least one person has been hospitalized and several other victims are being assessed after an armed former Naval Academy student opened fire on the Maryland campus.
At least one person was taken by helicopter to a local hospital, The Baltimore Sun and Fox News reported. Fox also claimed there were 'multiple victims' being assessed at the scene.
The New York Times reported that an email was sent out to students with a warning at 5:32pm: 'Get inside and lock your door right now. Not a drill. Get inside and lock your door.'
Multiple sources said they heard gunshots in the Bancraft Hall dormitories after claims a former student came to campus with a gun.
The Naval Academy announced the lockdown Thursday evening, as local police conducted a search.
'Naval Support Activity Annapolis, in coordination with local law enforcement, is currently responding to reports of threats made to the Naval Academy,' a Naval Academy spokesperson told The Daily Mail in a statement.
'The base is on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. This is a developing situation, and we will provide updates as they become available.'
Students, staff and faculty members have all been advised to shelter in place. A small group heading into the facility to watch a soccer practice were turned away.

Annapolis, Maryland — Multiple victims are being evaluated following a shooting incident at the U.S. Naval Academy, according to sources familiar with the developing situation.
The Academy was placed on immediate lockdown after a former midshipman, identified as Jackson Elliott Fleming, allegedly returned to campus armed with a weapon.

Why are Military Officers not armed at all times? Trump needs to change the rules that only MPs are armed and require all commissioned officers and NCOs to carry their sidearm when on duty.
