We often view the 90s as a golden era of optimism, a “simpler” time when we weren’t so disconnected by technology, when the economy was booming and the cultural landscape was rich in great music, movies, television, you name it.
But, as with any decade, there were a great many cons to go along with those pros. Folks who were adults (or at least close to it) during the 90s can easily recall plenty of darker moments. So when they were asked, "What was bad about the '90s?" people didn’t hold back.

“4. People were also quick to note how drastically different attitudes were towards mental health. We might have seen the beginnings of shifts towards community-based care, increased focus on medication, and growing efforts to reduce stigma at this time, but it was still a stark contrast to the openness of conversation and access to resources that we have today.”
Yeah ... today, every sort of mental malady is considered normal. No need to lock anyone up in a mental health facility. No wonder the world has gone mad.
Stupid article.
I was married, having kids, buying my first house in the 90s. It didn’t seem like a really stellar decade to me. Looking back now, I do consider it the last decent decade. I dislike pretty much everything about the 21st century.
The good times ended around 1994..
People should read the article, this is the most lefty version of this type of article that I have seen, far lefty and nonsensical.
The farther back you go the better it was. Every era has it’s problems but I believe people were much happier back in the day.
Nineties hell, the 80s were the era of A Shining City on a Hill.
I’ll take the 80’s. Reagan, John Paul II and Thatcher. Parachute pants. Camo as a fashion statement. Men Without Hats, the Eurythmics and Hall and Oates. Jolt Cola. The McDLT. Madonna before she became a skank. Etc.

When grunge hit it was the beginning of the end
The 90’s were the beginning of the Karen phase of the Democrats. It also was the great computer decade. We lived like kings. Clinton and Gore used a Confederate flag as a symbol.
Did they mean the 1790s? Washington was President for most of that decade. It has been largely downhill since then (other than getting rid of slavery, of course).
I moved from California to Texas, got married, and our daughter was born in the 1990’s. Pretty good decade for me.
I personally hated the 90s.
1990 was great, I spent the first part of it in London (Thatcher’s London) and had an amazing time. I returned again under Blair and it was not the same. Successive visits — the downward spiral was showing. Now — I can’t imagine what it was like.
The 90s were also corporate cheese on steroids — alternative music was bleak, and nothing compared to the edgy landscape of punk/new wave in the 80s.
The oughties and beyond have been grim. While I became a parent and have had some fun times — mostly, it’s been a steady decline. What’s happened in Europe devastates me, especially seeing what my England has devolved into.
A lot of woke bullshit in this article
Summary: Were the 90s bad? A lot of women, queers and mentally ill people suffered because of the white patriarchy.
No, because the 60s was the last great era.
That is very true the left started pushing women’s empowerment in the early 90s.
Don’t forget (c)rap.
