Is Trump trying to punish India's prized IT sector next?

After imposing steep tariffs on Indian goods, the US seems to be exploring a new front: potential tariffs on IT services, foreign remote workers, and outsourced business processes. Coupled with proposals to overhaul the H-1B visa system, and an increased levy on remittances made by Green Card holders and temporary visa workers, the move points to a broader strategy that could constrain India's most significant export engine: its human resources, including its engineers, coders, and students who sustain both Silicon Valley and the ITES boom in the US.

The debate gained traction when conservative commentator Jack Posobiec posted on X that "all outsourcing should be tariffed" and that foreign countries must "pay for the privilege of providing services remotely to the US the same way as goods."

He added that the approach could be applied "across industries, levelled as necessary per country."

The post was later reposted by Senior Counsellor for Trade and Manufacturing, Peter Navarro, indicating that these ideas are resonating with the most powerful in the White House.

If implemented, such measures could fundamentally alter the economics of global outsourcing.

Tariffs on foreign remote workers would raise the cost of providing IT and back-office services to US companies, potentially prompting firms to rethink contracts, increase prices, or even bring work back stateside.

The ripple effects could disrupt supply chains, delay projects, and erode profit margins for Indian IT companies heavily reliant on the American market.

Australia is even worse. Their doors are flung open for legal Chinese and Indian immigrants and “students”. Their convict genes turned out to be dumbass. Our excuse is???

I agree they are ubiquitous but I’d rather see those Europeans you refer to succeed in Europe and allow Americans to succeed here.
The narratives we are being sold are incredibly cynical and disingenuous. America needs to spend some time where Americans are the labor force and are paid a fair salary for the training, risk and ability needed for the job. When that is accomplished any areas that are unable to be filled by Americans or need very specialized talents can be addressed.

This migration from third world will spark a new wave of Fascism, Ultra Nationalism as in Italy, Spain and Germany in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Mark my words, the Brown and Black Shirts will march again! Korans will burn and hated foreigners beaten in the streets. This Neo-Fascism will stress nationalism and rebuilding and a rejection of Globalism and Gay Rights. It might even find root in America.

No I haven’t. But I have been flamed by both sides. That is quite alright though.
